SCHAEFFLER BECOMES PARTNER FOR ROLLER BEARING TECHNOLOGY IN ALSTOM ALLIANCE PROGRAMME
For many years, Schaeffler has supplied Alstom with axlebox bearings along with housings, drive bearings for rail vehicle gearboxes and motors, and slewing rings for underground trains and trams. The company has now announced that it is a partner for rolling bearing technology in the Alstom Alliance programme. Schaeffler is the only partner company in the
Alstom Alliance in the commodity of rolling bearing technology. “We are very happy that our customer Alstom has included us in its partner programme Alstom Alliance. Together, we want to not only achieve but also continuously improve our high standards in quality and sustainability,” commented Sascha Zaps, CEO Bearings & Industrial Solutions at Schaeffler AG. “The partnership will enable a long-term exchange of experience and knowledge, which will especially benefit the development and design of rolling bearings and thus, in turn, contribute to reliable and safe rail transport.” Alstom launched the Alstom Alliance
programme in 2015 in order to be able to offer customers high-quality, cost-effective products and services in a competitive market. The aim is to build long-term partnerships with strategic suppliers for the development and implementation of innovative, reliable and more sustainable solutions, covering all phases
from conceptual design to delivery.
REMANUFACTURING FOR RAILWAY OPERATIONS In the area of bearing remanufacturing or reconditioning, Schaeffler is currently expanding its offerings in order to support Alstom regionally with this service and contribute toward achieving the sustainability targets of the train manufacturer. For businesses in rail transport, use of the circular economy system is one of the main approaches for achieving greater sustainability. Bearing reconditioning can result in resource savings of up to 95%, depending on the extent of reconditioning. At the same time, Schaeffler offers the same quality and safety standards with its 100% return service and delivers the bearings with the same warranty as for new products. “We are proud to welcome our partner Schaeffler to the Alstom Alliance programme. This partnership reflects the strong relationship between our two companies and our shared commitment to building a long-term journey toward success,” said Guirec Turquet de Beauregard, Alstom procurement domain director for electrical & propulsion. With a common understanding of
sustainability, Schaeffler and Alstom participate in various initiatives and associations to help improve the effectiveness of sustainability management through use of standardised measures and processes. Through their membership in the ‘Railsponsible’ initiative, Schaeffler and Alstom underscore their commitment to greater sustainability in the railway industry. In addition, Schaeffler’s Platinum status, resulting from an EcoVadis sustainability score of 81/100 points, reflects the excellence of its sustainability practices and its unwavering dedication to environmental and social responsibility.

TECHNOLOGY FILE SLIMLINE TERMINAL BLOCKS
The Anytek range of terminal blocks, junction modules and relay sockets are now available from Amphenol franchised distributor Inelco Hunter. Slim in design, the standard terminal blocks
offer an expansive choice of product solutions. A safe lever-action block is available for EV Chargers. Wire detection versions are available for HVAC applications, and other options include DIN Rail blocks. The PCB Sockets series include pluggable
terminal blocks with both screw- and spring- clamp plugs available. They can be configured into different combinations for simple maintenance and reliable connection. The Spring Clamp System has two
connection methods: spring-cage, and push-in spring. They feature anti-vibration,
a simple wiring operation and slim, compact construction. The design conforms with IEC/EN60998, IEC/EN60947-7-4, UL1059, CSA C2.22 No.158, and other international standards. The Spring Type for Plug series of lock-free screw plugs features anti-vibration, reliable clamping, easy wiring operation, and the wires can be quickly connected, the company explains.

DISPOSABLE CONNECTORS OFFER PREMIUM PERFORMANCE FOR MEDICAL DEVICES
Smiths Interconnect has announced the addition of a new disposable option to its renowned Hypergrip connector series for the medical market segment. Limited and single-use connections for medical devices are a growing need. In recent times, there has been an increasing focus on developing connectors that are safe, reliable, and cost-effective for single-use applications. This effort has been motivated by the need to reduce the risk of cross- contamination and improve hygiene in medical environments. However, this trend has also led to challenges in ensuring such connections are as robust and functional as reusable ones. The new disposable receptacle connector completes the company’s Hypergrip Series of patented
and proven high-reliability circular connectors specifically designed for medical applications. The need for a disposable solution that maintains the premium look, reliability, regulatory compliance, and ease of use of the HyperGrip connector series has driven Smiths Interconnect to develop disposable Hypergrip receptacles that maintain current electrical performance with limited cycle life and environmental tolerance (up to 30 mating cycles). The disposable configurations have all the benefits of the existing versatile Hypergrip Series within a cost-effective design for single or few-use applications. Available in standard 12 (HG2) and 33 (HG4) contact positions, the new receptacles are designed to support over-moulding and high-volume production for applications in patient monitoring, therapeutic, and minimally-invasive device market segments. They offer the proven electrical performance of the standard receptacles in terms of insulation resistance, dielectric withstand voltage, current carrying, low-level current resistance, and at least IPX4 with potting or over-moulding.
