ENCLOSURES & ENCLOSURE FURNITURE SUPPLEMENT A NEW LIFELINE FOR FIRE PROTECTION ABS ENCLOSURES
attached by two external, pre-fitted lugs, which can be rotated around 90˚. The terminal block can be flexibly adjusted on the base carrier through three positions – 0, 45 and 90˚ – thanks to a single,
A polycarbonate fire protection enclosure has improved the safety of electrical systems, enabling the control of alarm, evacuation and extinguishers for a minimum of 90 minutes in the event of a fire. The new enclosure protects electrical connections, junctions and distribution to maintain the operation of building fire safety systems. Part of the Lifeline range of products from
Spelsberg, the newly upgraded WKE enclosures meet E30 to E90, the strict standards which ensure that functional integrity is sustained for a minimum of 30, 60 and 90 minutes in the event of fire. This means that Lifeline enclosures ensure the operation of alarms, emergency lighting, acoustic systems and evacuation elevators, typically required for 30 minutes. Smoke and heat extraction systems, water extinguisher pressure systems, as well as fire brigade lifts, can also continue to operate for a minimum of 90 minutes as a result of the protection provided by the range. Thermoplastic polycarbonate was the material
of choice due to its high heat tolerance. As polycarbonate is non-conductive during a fire, it also removes the risk of short circuit. Internally, the construction includes terminal block clamps made from high temperature-resistant ceramic. To protect the enclosures from unauthorised access, sealing is achieved through integrated openings. Lifeline meets British Standard BS 7671 for
electrical safety, as well as the German electrical circuit fire safety standard, DIN 4102-12. In addition, the enclosures have a high resistance to impact, meeting IK08, and high protection against ingress including strong water jets, meeting IP66. As a result, the enclosures can also be mounted in an outside environment. Lifeline is certified in accordance with VDE and ULEU, as well as EN 60670 and IEC 62208. The pre-assembled enclosures can be easily mounted on a fire-resistant wall or ceiling, and are
central screw and sliding bracket. For easier wire routing and attachment, the
terminal block can be set on the mounting rail in the high position. Alternatively, the mounting rail can be set in a second, low position, ideal for specific applications such as D0 fuse mounting. The design also provides space for installing single and double terminals, as well as fuse holders. Meanwhile, the enclosure cover can be kept safe during wiring with the optional cover-retaining strap. Pre-punched, patented knock-out membranes on the enclosure housing enable simple and clean cable routing and installation. The exterior of the housing also provides labelling fields, where lettering can be applied with adhesive strips or waterproof pen. The new Lifeline enclosures are available in
formats for connecting and junction, secured junction with fuse included, and for communication lines. Sizes range from 100 x 100 x 70 mm up to 250 x 200 x 120mm.

New from BCL Enclosures are two families of ABS enclosures which are designed to provide an unobtrusive solution in situations where aesthetics are important. The AB Series are two-part
enclosures with a matt finish and lids which are retained with four self- tapping screws that can be inserted from either inside or outside. There are integral stand offs in both halves
of each box and three models (AB77, AB78 and AB88) also have PCB slots. Six models are available: the AB77, AB78 and AB88 measure 178mm long x 122mm wide and are 36mm, 55mm and 74mm high respectively, each with a nominal wall thickness of 3.0mm. AB99, AB910 and AB1010 are 240 x 190mm and are 40mm, 65mm and 90mm high respectively, with a nominal wall thickness of 4.0mm. The BM Series offers has a polished
finish. The lids of BM11W (143 x 82 x 30mm high), BM12W (143 x 82 x 44mm high) and BM22W (143 x 82 x 58mm high) are retained by four 3mm countersunk plated screws fixed into brass inserts. Nominal wall thickness is 3.0mm. BM12W has printed circuit board slots in the base while the larger BM22W model has PCB slots in both the base and the lid.

RUGGED ENCLOSURE ENABLES IN-SERVICE MONITORING OF THE REAL WORLD EMISSIONS OF MOBILE MACHINERY
An advanced rugged enclosure has been launched by HORIBA for its OBS-ONE portable emissions measurement system (PEMS). This enables it to be used for the in-service monitoring of real world emissions (RWE) of combustion engine-powered non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) in real-life operational and often harsh environments. The OBS-ONE-RE enclosure features high
endurance and reliable springs that protect the OBS-ONE from shock and vibration in all three axes. It is also weather-proof, has dust filters and has a cooling system that maintains a consistent internal temperature, enabling the OBS-ONE-RE to operate over the range -7 to +40˚C. Built-in Wi-Fi allows the OBS-ONE-RE to be operated and monitored remotely, enabling the NRMM driver to concentrate on the vehicle or machinery operation. This rich feature set is said to make the rugged
enclosure a good solution for protecting the OBS-ONE from the harsh environments in which many NRMMs, and some HDVs operate, and which must now be monitored under industry regulations. Lewis George, product design
engineer of HORIBA UK’s R&D department, commented: “The OBS-ONE-RE is the result of extensive research, development and verification, including testing on the shaker rigs of certified test houses and on various NRMM vehicles, to ensure the product’s durability and robustness. Most importantly, the OBS-ONE maintains a stable
/ DESIGNSOLUTIONS
response within tolerances appropriate for certification.” According to the company,
the OBS-ONE can be used for monitoring the exhaust gases of machinery such as diggers, quarry vehicles, snowmobiles, inland water vessels and portable power generating sets. It measures concentration levels of gaseous emissions – specifically CO, CO2 and NO2
, THC, NOx , plus particle number
(PN). It also measures the exhaust flow rate, environmental conditions and GPS data.
