GLOBAL REVENUES FOR LINEAR MOTION PRODUCTS REACHED A RECORD HIGH IN 2017
According to research by IHS Markit, global revenues for linear motion products reached a record high of $7.9 billion in 2017. This was due to a substantial surge in demand for linear motion products, originating in the last quarter of 2016 and continuing into 2017. The two largest industries for linear motion
products in 2017 were machine tools, and medical and scientific. Machine tools accounted for 18.4% of global revenues, followed by medical at 11.2%. Robotics is forecast to be the fastest- growing market for linear motion products, with an 18.1% revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) from 2017 to 2022. However, linear motion product
manufacturers were not expecting this situation and were not adequately prepared to deal with it, which has led to a considerable increase in
delivery times, the report found. Revenue growth of 10.2% is expected in 2018,
primarily due to substantial order backlogs, but growth will then slow to 4.5% in 2019. Due to improved global economic conditions and an increase in manufacturing activity, total revenue from linear motion products is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5.6% from 2017 to 2022. The research also found that an
increase in demand for gantry machinery will drive demand for linear motion products in robotics, especially for pick-and-place applications. Most of this demand stems from China’s increased adoption of advanced automation

EPSON LAUNCHES HIGH SPEED PLOTTERS AIMED AT TECHNICAL USERS
Epson has announced two new high-speed, easy-to-use, large-format plotters – the 24in SC-T3100 and the 36in SC-T5100 – which are available as desktop or floor-standing models. Marking Epson’s expansion of the T-Series product line to the low-to-mid-range CAD plotter market, the wireless plotters are compact while providing reliable, fast and accurate printing performance, the company explains. “The SureColor T3100 and T5100 are designed specifically for innovators – engineers, designers and
architects – looking for a compact plotter that fits neatly in their workspace,” says Phil McMullin, sales manager, Professional Graphics, Epson UK. “Building on Epson’s latest technology to deliver class-leading print performance, the new printers will allow users to wirelessly produce accurate and vibrant prints from tablets and smartphones virtually anywhere.” The company has also announced two new professional, entry-level, technical plotters: the SureColor
SC-T3400 24in (desktop and floor-standing) printer and the SureColor SC-T5400 36in floor-standing printer. McMullin commented: “It’s simple: the technology is focussed on making you more productive. Whether
you’re producing highly-detailed CAD drawings, stunning advertising posters or eye-catching POS, these printers always impress.”

RITTAL OFFERS CUSTOMERS THE CHANCE TO TEST DRIVE THE PERFOREX MACHINING CENTRE
Rittal Perforex machining centres are a major advance for switchgear manufacturing as they are designed to automate the creation of bore holes, cut-outs and threads in mounting plates, enclosure doors and side panels. Customers are now being invited to Rittal’s new Working Demonstration
Once used by just a few companies, additive manufacturing/3D printing is now being used across the world for everything from product design to prototyping, and even for the production of obsolete components. But have you stopped to
consider the quality of the material being used for this? It is imperative to make sure that the material is of the highest quality as failing to do so can significantly compromise the integrity of the final product. Find out more about this, and how to identify impurities, by turning to page 23.

Centre in Rotherham to see the Perforex in action. They can bring examples of their own enclosure modification projects using Rittal AE enclosures and compare the quality of finish they’re currently achieving, as well as the time a job takes, with that delivered by the Perforex. “The Perforex really is a game-changer for panel builders,” says Paresh
Kansara, Rittal’s product manager for industrial and outdoor enclosures. “We’ve heard of projects that would have taken up to four hours now completed in 20 minutes to a consistently high standard of finish, whether the order was for one panel or 100... This is the first time we’ve been able to offer a no-obligation opportunity for customers to see it in action and ‘test drive’ it in the UK.”
Mouser Electronics has announced that construction will soon begin on a new 127,500 sq. ft. distribution centre extension, which follows a previous large expansion that included more warehouse space and the addition of an employee fitness centre and medical clinic, all completed within the last two years. Mouser also plans to add a new building on the company’s 78-acre campus to house customer service teams.

It has been 50 years since the Danfoss VLT 5 Drive was launched, and 25 years since VACON was founded. To celebrate this and to highlight the reliability and longevity of its products, Danfoss is running a competition to find the oldest VLT and VACON drives still in service. The Company owning the oldest
working product of each brand entered will be awarded a £500 gift voucher for a popular on-line retailer. Awards will also be made for the oldest drives in specific product ranges – such as VLT 3000, 5000, 6000 and VACON V10, CX, NXL, etc. – to find the oldest in each class. Entries must be submitted by the
4th March 2019 and the winners will be announced on the 18th March. To enter the competition, please
