PRODUCTS CABLES & CONNECTORS RUGGED PCB

CONNECTORS The Hirose ER8 series of 0.8mm board-to-board connectors for industrial and medical applications are now available from RS Components. The rugged PCB connectors offer high- speed transmission at data rates of over 10Gbps, exceeding the IEEE802.3ap backplane Ethernet specification. These have an extended contact

wipe and insertion depth to keep the mating force low, and are suitable for applications requiring resistance to shock and vibration. Using staggered GSSG pin assignments allows 85Ω differential impedance to be achieved.

ETHERNET CABLE FOR SMALL SPACES

To enable secure data transfer and reliable power supply in ever-smaller spaces, igus has introduced the chainflex Ethernet cable, said to be the ideal partner for the new ix HARTING connector. HARTING’s connector saves 70% of

space compared to the previous generation; while chainflex cables require 50% less space than standard Ethernet cables, the

company explains. They can be used for all common bus systems, including Ethernet CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, Ethercat or Profinet. According to the company, the CF11 twisted pair data cable has

the tightest bend radius available on the market. Thanks to its extremely small bend radii down to 6.8 x d, the high-end chainflex cable can be used in the smallest installation spaces and for deep- freeze applications with temperatures down to -35˚C. The CF11 is capable of meeting the highest industrial demands

for continuous movement, such as in pick and place machines and highly dynamic packaging equipment.

The Sheltap 9715 series waterproof electronic branch connector from Kyocera is a clamshell- style connector for automotive electronics. Branch connectors are used to install electronic

equipment, such as a navigation system or dashboard camera, by branching power from the vehicle’s main wiring harness. Kyocera designed

the Sheltap series to provide a high level of waterproof functionality

and reliability. By combining a housing lock structure with sealant materials, the new connectors are able to meet JASO D616 standards for high waterproofing and reliability in automotive components. The Sheltap series connectors can also operate in extreme temperatures from -40 to +85˚C. The products are designed to meet the special

interconnection requirements of aluminium wiring, which is 40% lighter than copper wire. They are also easy to assemble - simply insert the wires and apply pressure.

New from Murrelektronik is the flexible holder system (FHS), designed for the secure fastening of wires, cables or cable protection conduits for dynamic energy supply to robots. Developed by Murrplastik Systemtechnik, this is based around a modular holder system so is compatible with different robot types. Offering secure anchorage, the FHS

can be used on straight or conical surfaces, on edges, different surfaces, profiles and diameters. The FHS-SH system, which includes

the system holder SH M25/M32, can be used to guide and stabilise small energy supplies and for low to medium travel speed, as well as for gliding or fixed assembly of the cable protection conduit. It is suitable for conduits sizes M25/P21 and M32/P29. The Flexible holder system with

one-piece universal holder (FHS-UHE) offers simple assembly. Its one-piece, undetachable locking clip also allows replacement of cable protection conduits with just one click. The FHS- UHE is recommended for avoiding axial displacements of the cable protection conduits within dynamic and simple applications. With the flexible holder system with

ETHERNET CABLING TERMINATION SYSTEM ENHANCED

HARTING has enhanced its process-safe field installation preLink industrial Ethernet cabling termination system. Alongside its range of 10/100 Mbit/s M-12 D-Code, 10 Gbit/s X-Code and RJ45 connectors and extenders, the family now includes a preLink PCB jack version which enables flexible cable-to-board connectivity within a device or machine. The preLink connector parts are produced in rugged metal housings, while the RJ45 preLink male

plugs also incorporate stronger latches for extra field-installed reliability. The functional principle of the preLink system is based on two parts: the connector carrier and the plastic

terminal module. The module has eight entry holes for finger insertion of insulated solid or stranded cable conductors, and is pressed together with a simple 360˚ hand press tool. It is then simply clicked into the connector carrier to produce a highly reliable, repeatable field termination cabling system. The terminal module with the cable attached can be removed or replaced at any time from the connector carrier. The terminal modules come in three different types: 8-pin yellow devices for cable with conductors of AWG

23/22 stranded/solid; 8-pin white for AWG 27/26 stranded/solid covering with Cat 5e to Cat 6A performance compliance; and 4-pin Black AWG 27/26 stranded/solid for AIDA/Profinet performance networks. The new HARTING preLink PCB jack ensures more stable and flexible Ethernet data transfer from the

main internal control board to the panel I/O link. It also allows direct cabling links to external sensors or other devices through IP65/67 panel-mounted cable glands. The pre-terminated preLink terminal module is clicked into the tensile

load-absorbing PCB jack carrier, with a cable tie providing extra strain relief. Typical applications include devices such as door telephone systems, ticket

machines, surveillance camera systems, building automation controls and industrial machinery-based solutions in areas such as packaging, multi- weighing and handling systems, and print processing.

looped velcro tape (FHS-C), the wires, cables and cable protection conduits are attached to the robot arm directly. This fits various robot arm diameters. By direct mounting with velcro tape, no tool is required for mounting, there are no loose components, and the design is flat and compact. The base bodies of the flexible holder

system are equipped with an anti-slip rubber coating (a red soft component) at the support surface of the robot arm, which provides secure hold and gentle support without scratching the surface. While the FHS-SH has a slip-free coating only at the bottom of the base body, the FHS-UHE and FHS-C have the red soft component on the bottom, and the side parts up to the upper side. This guarantees slip-free and gentle mounting of the energy supply. The flexible velcro tape, which has a

special coating on the inside, holds all three FHS-systems quickly and securely to the robot arm. The various lengths allow continuous adjustment.
