PRODUCTS LINEAR MOTION HYBRID GANTRY OFFERS SMOOTH MOTION
Available from PI, the A-341 HGS hybrid gantry is designed to combine maximum throughput with smooth and highly accurate motion in a compact envelope. According to the company, this hybrid gantry XY/XYZ positioning stage provides the framework for controlled, precise, overhead motion that is often sought after for 3D printing, assembly, pick-and-place, alignment, inspection, and industrial automation applications. With this, the cross axis utilises a frictionless air bearing guiding system
which allows for excellent velocity control, repeatability, straightness and cleanliness. The lower dual-motor axis uses precision mechanical linear bearings for rigidity and reduced size. Furthermore, the company explains, absolute measuring encoders render homing procedures unnecessary; and ironless linear motors eliminate cogging, providing smoother motion without vibration and better velocity control. An optional vertical axis (Z-stage) with ballscrew drive or linear motor and pneumatic counterbalance can be integrated with the gantry cross axis. Features of the hybrid stages include:
300 x 300 to 500 x 1000mm XY travel; absolute encoders of 1nm resolution; Z-Stage options: linear motors or ball screws; 2m/sec max velocity (cross axis); cable carrier option; and a water cooling option for high acceleration/high duty cycle applications

The Tolomatic RSX family of extreme high-force electric actuators are available from Motion Control Products. The RSX080 (max force of 18,000 lbf, 80 kN) is a smaller version of the RSX096 (max force of 30,000 lbf, 133 kN), offering the same features and benefits and for the same applications, but at a lower force and reduced cost. The minimum stroke length is 75mm and the maximum 1500mm. The RSX product utilises a tie-rod design, as well as an anti-rotate

feature on the actuator rod; while the seal cartridge is a one-piece assembly for easy field replacement. It is also designed to withstand extreme conditions and cold-weather operation as it is IP67 rated for water, dust and corrosion resistance. This series can resist water ingress to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes in a static state. All external components are manufactured in Type III hardcoat anodized aluminium or zinc plated steel. The series is also available with a white epoxy coated food-grade option; and the thrust rod can be provided in stainless steel on request. Applications include active security barriers, assembly machinery,
injection moulding, machine tools, motion simulation, etc. Motion Control Products

An actuator in the form of a servomotor with a built-in screw drive is available from Wittenstein. The latest addition is available in a short- stroke version, capable of speeds up to 900mm/s, which can be configured as a small servo axis for dynamic short-stroke applications. The IP65-protected, stainless-steel cyber dynamic motors can
also be used as linear actuators in wet areas of food manufacturing, packing, filling and bottling plants. The servomotors are available in 17, 22, 32 or 40mm diameters.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS
Their moments of inertia are said to be much lower than would be achieved by attaching a screw to a servomotor. According to the company, the actuators are designed for
applications such as positioning, joining, bending, gripping and dispensing, or for installations where space is limited.
