ABB touchscreen paperless recorder gets powerful new features
N
Piezo actuators – the driving force for
itself in industrial production. Although injection moulding is still the method of choice for producing large volumes of plastic components, additive manufacturing is well suited to creating individual parts or small batches. It is being used across an increasingly diverse range of sectors – from automotive and consumer goods to medical technologies – as product lifecycles becomes shorter, model variations increase and the demand for individuality grows. ARBURG GmbH and Co KG, a machine construction and
additive manufacturing A
dditive manufacturing is no longer simply a niche technique for rapid prototyping, and is establishing
engineering company in Lossburg, Germany, has developed a new process for additive manufacturing called ARBURG Plastic Freeforming (APF). This novel technique uses a PICMA® piezo actuator from Physik Instrumente (PI), a global leader in precision positioning technology. As with other additive manufacturing techniques, APF makes it possible to inexpensively produce a functional component layer-by-layer from a 3D model dataset.

ew functions for RVG200 touchscreen paperless data recorder help users to get even more from their process data
ABB has expanded the capabilities of its RVG200 paperless touchscreen
recorder with the addition of new functions providing users with greater flexibility in collecting, displaying and accessing data. The RVG200’s simplicity and range of features including high security data
storage, easy remote access and scalability, has made it a popular choice in a wide range of applications, from water abstraction and treatment through to heating, cooling and batch recording in food and beverage production. Amongst the new functions added to the recorder is the ability to create user-customisable views, including plant
mimics that can be populated with process values and status. Using a PC tool, users can now create customised views and populate them with bitmap images, text, numeric
values and function buttons. ABB

Ellsworth Adhesives Europe Announces Special Offer on Metcal Products
E
llsworth Adhesives Europe is pleased to announce a special promotion on Metcal’s CV-5210 Connection Validation™ Soldering Station. Branded as the next
big step in soldering process control, the single-port CV-5210 is embedded with SmartHeat™ technology, which senses the thermal load and instantly delivers power on demand directly to the joint. This ensures soldering is performed in a fast, safe and repeatable process with no calibration required. A unique feature of this soldering system is its ability to evaluate the quality of
the solder joint by calculating the intermetallic compound formation and offering feedback to the operator. By doing so, the patented Connect Validation™ technology takes the risks associated with soldering out the hands of the operator whilst assuring a good solder joint. The introduction of Connection Validation™ technology is an industry first as it offers not only control of the tip temperature, but also closed loop feedback in real time via the integrated light in the handpiece.

3-step setting mode and selectable delay time function, with the ZSE20(F)#/ISE20# (A, B and C). The extended series will help operators deliver efficiencies in terms of control and time saving. SMC is extending its ZSE20(F)/ISE20 digital switch range.
SMC merges its digital pressure switch range under the same design S
MC is building on the success of its ZSE20(F)/ISE20 pressure switch range that features 3-screen display,
SMC UK Marketing Manager Bob Hitner, said:
The A, B and C variations share the original ZSE20(F)/ISE20’s display, setting, selectable delay time, as well as the lightweight and compact design. All models simplify the visualisation process for operators, while saving time as there are fewer push button operations to perform.
The added variations also match the terms of
enclosure, output type and media of the current series: • A Model-> Current ZSE30(F)/ISE30A-> IP40, NPN/PNP and Analogue output
• B Model-> Current ZSE40(F)/ISE40A-> IP65, NPN/PNP and Analogue output
• C Model-> Current ZSE80(F)/ISE80-> IP65, NPN/PNP and Analogue output, for fluids.
“Following the success of our ZSE20(F)/ISE20 pressure switch last year, we have taken the step to extend the range with these latest models. Customers have been particularly impressed with the functionality of design, its ease of use and accuracy of information that is readily available with minimal delay. They have found it both energy efficient and cost effective to operate.” Further flexibility and
advantages of the ZSE20(F)#/ISE20# include the peak and bottom values are maintained, even if the power supply is cut, offering greater control in the process.
Also, being compact and lightweight, the models not
only deliver space savings, but due to the weight reduction there are less inert moments when the sensor is mounted in mobile applications such as robotic arms.

SMC’s latest centring unit helps to save space and air T
he MACM is a new centring unit from SMC that helps to align and position heavy workpieces on the move, so
manufacturers can install and operate more compact conveyor lines. Manufacturers seeking solutions to help save space
and energy need look no further than SMC’s latest centring unit. The MACM helps to align and position workpieces up to 1,000 kg on conveyor lines, so smaller cylinders can be used. Further advantages of the MACM are achieved by its
flexibility, as it can move in any direction and rotate transferrable workpieces 360°, while maintaining ±1 or less centring accuracy.
38 NOVEMBER 2018 | DESIGN SOLUTIONS When lack of available space is an issue and reduced
energy consumption is required, the MACM has been specifically designed to meet these challenges with the added benefit of having more compact and efficient conveyor lines. Other features of the MACM include a built-in air locking
mechanism and the option of mounting an external photo sensor to offer greater control during the process. Further usage benefits are achieved with the choice of three table materials and a table centre movable range up to Ø100 mm, which makes the MACM ideal for general automation and material handling plants.
