PRODUCTS PLCS, HMIS & INDUSTRIAL PCS AUGMENTED REALITY HMI APP LAUNCHED

An augmented reality (AR) app that incorporates Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) onto Smart Glasses has been developed by Progea. By superimposing digital information onto physical objects, the AR HMIs empower factory workers to interact with machines and manufacturing processes virtually. The NExT AR app uses the SCADA/HMI platform Movicon.NExT. It was created to allow plant operators to follow key performance

indicators (KPIs), receive alerts and notifications as well as interact with critical plant processes in real-time from anywhere across the factory floor. As the app connects wearables to the factory’s SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system, it creates a self-contained, hands-free and ergonomic HMI. In this way, operators can access any dashboards, alerts, pages, screens, real-time and historical data stored within the SCADA system. NExT AR is compatible with Microsoft HoloLens and Android smart glasses,

including Google Glass. Remote access from NExT AR to SCADA is provided by the Movicon.NExT HTML5 Web Client. The two systems interact via Wi-Fi connections and OPC UA server-client communication channels. In this way, the HUD can display any data from Movicon.NExT. Bespoke solutions can be either created by the users, via software development kits (SDK), or by Progea itself.

INDUSTRIAL CLOUD SOLUTION FOR HMIS

Panasonic Electric Works has introduced Corvina, an industrial cloud solution for its range of HMIs. According to the company, this is a safe, Open VPN and SSL-based cloud solution that allows remote administration of industrial plants and equipment. Corvina Cloud is a high-performance

server with the latest open technologies to administer data and control flows. Corvina Cloud therefore acts as a Platform as a Service (PaaS). Using the solution, it is possible to define different roles with different user rights. Panasonic’s touch panels serve as

gateways to the local network (HMe series, HM500 series, HM700 series). The panels have to be connected to a central server. All the company’s PLCs, IP cameras, and other devices capable of connecting to the Internet can act as endpoints.

EDGE FORCE-SENSING SOLUTION FOR SMARTPHONES, WEARABLES AND TABLETS

New from Peratech is a QTC-based EDGE force-sensing solution that delivers User Experience (UX) differentiation and functionality for smartphones, wearables and tablets. This HMI solution uses the edges of a device to provide what Peratech believes is a better user experience. Thin sensors with QTC technology are mechanically integrated in key areas of the smartphone to capture a user’s natural single-handed grip, ergonomic finger movements, intuitive presses and squeezes to control key functions. EDGE can be used to simplify mute, sleep, volume, zoom, scroll, and emergency-call functions while improving one-handed usability. It also works if the user has wet hands or is wearing gloves. By providing a quality force-sensing user

experience with the edge of a device, the company enables designers to eliminate physical button openings and implement a thinner, more contoured, device with a rigid-metal chassis.

A process control system that addresses key challenges in metal pre-treatment, as customers are increasingly seeking to implement data-driven Industry 4.0 solutions, has been introduced by Henkel. In combination with the company’s New Generation Conversion coatings (NGC) for multi-metal substrates, the BONDERITE E-CO digital multi-channel (DMC) controller enables maximum corrosion performance and sustainability at minimised overall process costs. The system, which allows users to run complex

metal pre-treatment lines with up to fifteen or more stages, features a touch screen PLC interface and supports fully digitalised process control with flexible communication and remote access functionality. BONDERITE E-CO DMC minimises chemical usage,

water and power consumption as well as waste. In addition, it helps to avoid manual work and chemical exposure in metal pre-treatment. All equipment and process setup, adjustment, control and monitoring can effectively be managed by the controller. In addition, the multi-channel system supports both single and multiple production lines in the same or neighbouring buildings, and can control a virtually unlimited number of process parameters and devices. Its internal memory stores all parameter data and events for creating numerical, graphic and consumption reports as well as maintaining a historical database. Furthermore, its connectivity easily links the system to other resources in local area networks and

TOUCHSCREEN DETECTS INTENSITY OF PRESSURE EXERTED

A number of new technologies from HMI specialist RAFI were introduced at the Embedded World exhibition. Products included TwinTouch touchscreen technology, which detects not only touch but also the intensity of pressure exerted on the panel. Combined touch and force detection prevents false inputs, increases operating security and makes additional input levels feasible. Customised development of operating

systems with capacitive touch displays is a further focus for the company. The company also displayed products such as the Smart Pad 2.0 panel for Kuka robot systems and a premium- quality control panel for Schaerer coffee machines. RAFI also produces embedded control units which can be used in operating solutions for various control and visualisation tasks.
