PRODUCTS GEARS & GEARBOXES ECONOMY PERFORMANCE GEARS
An economy version of STOBER’s PE range of planetary gear units, which offers significantly increased performance, has been launched. This features the company’s helical gearing, and delivers smooth operation and very low noise. When directly attached to the STOBER IE5-class LeanMotor, the end-user benefits from a drive that is both economical and extremely energy efficient. The PE range incorporates backlash stability and long service
life, a benefit for customers in the automation and packaging industries looking for a diverse range of dynamic precision drive options for demanding operations. In addition, the company has increased the acceleration torque by 45% and the nominal torque by 50%, which gives a very significant improvement in performance. The two-stage variant is also shorter, and as a result of these developments the new economy gear units are lighter and more compact overall. STOBER has also matched the
interfaces of this economy version to its high-performance 3rd generation planetary gear units, meaning that both its smaller motors and third-party motors can be integrated in direct attachment,
and with an adapter in the economy version. The company’s Encoderless LeanMotor provides efficiency
up to 96%, along with the IE5 energy efficiency classification. In direct attachment with a PE gear unit, this synchronous servo motor forms a highly compact and economical drive unit. Pairing the LeanMotor with an SC6 or SI6 slim drive controller creates a powerful drive system, the components of which can then be combined with a wide range of STOBER products.
STOBER T: 01543 458858 SERVO GEARBOX RANGE EXTENDED
Nabtesco has expanded its Neco Series of high-performance servo gearboxes to include sizes 80 and 160, as well as a new case design. The series now offers a total of five sizes: 25, 42, 80, 125 and 160. With

this step the company offers an extensive range of graduated sizes to enable absolutely precise gear design, which has positive effects with respect to installation space and cost-effectiveness. While size 80, which has a rated torque of 784Nm and achieves acceleration and deceleration torques of 1,960Nm, is in the middle line-up, the Neco-160 with a rated torque of 1,600Nm and acceleration and deceleration torques of 4,000Nm, is the top-of-the-line product in this series. The company is already planning to expand the series in the heavy-duty range. According to the company, there are also innovations with regard to
motor adaptation. In the past, the bolting of the case was implemented on the application side (type A), with no screw holes or protruding parts on the motor side. This can facilitate assembly and allows use in hygiene sensitive applications such as food packaging, medical engineering, biotechnology or the chemical industry. In addition, all sizes are now available with the conventional type B case design, which allows a bolted connection from the motor side. The Neco can therefore be bolted on from both the motor side and the application side. This gives the user maximum flexibility in motor adaptation. The robust gears achieve high precision with a hysteresis loss of 0.5
arc.min. The two-stage reduction principle results in excellent dynamics and smooth operation, as well as high repeatability and path accuracy, which makes these compact servo gearboxes ideal for automated processes – such as positioning, flexible handling and processing tasks, or dynamic pick-and- place applications.

34 JUNE 2021 | DESIGN SOLUTIONS NEW RIGHT-ANGLE GEAR UNITS
In addition to its MAXXDRIVE parallel and right-angle gear units, which offer output torques from 15 to 282kNm across 11 sizes, Nord DriveSystems is now offering the MAXXDRIVE XT series of right-angle gear units with a thermally optimised design in seven sizes from 15 to 75kNm. According to the company, the modular system allows for the planning of perfectly matched drive systems for heavy-duty applications. The gear units are used when high output
torques and powers are required; and the comprehensive configuration and mounting options of the MAXXDRIVE industrial gear unit allow for standardised as well as tailor-made drive solutions. The combination of motor, gear unit, coupling and braking system, for example, results in precisely planned complete units that are supplied ready-to-install, mounted on a motor swing base or a base frame. As an alternative, the motor attachment can be realised via an IEC/NEMA adapter. Flange and output shaft versions suit the application requirements. Typical applications are drives for conveyor belts, consisting of an electric motor, a
coupling solution and an industrial gear unit with axial fan. The primary focus here is on a sufficient heat dissipation to allow for ultimate thermal limit powers. The new MAXXDRIVE XT industrial gear units with their heavily ribbed housings are ideally suited for this purpose. The power and speed ranges of the application- optimised two-stage right-angle gear units have been specially designed for applications in which low speed ranges are required in combination with high powers. Another typical application for the gear units is drives for mixing and agitation
processes. By equipping the unit with reinforced bearing and flange versions (VL2/KL2 - VL6/KL6), the drive can be optimally adjusted to application loads.
