SUPPLEMENT ENCLOSURE & SAFETY SOLUTIONS

BOW AND BRIDGE HANDLES FOR OEMS AND ENCLOSURE MANUFACTURERS

Joining WDS Components’ range of existing handles, is a range of handles in stainless steel, aluminium and plastic. The bow and bridge handles include a variety of styles and colours, including orange

powder coating. Available in various sizes for doors, drawers, cabinets and access panels, these can also be used for carrying heavy loads. The complete handle range is designed for applications from everyday domestic use

through to OEM machine builders and enclosure manufacturers. As well as bow and bridge designs, the range includes case handles for moveable storage units, recessed handles for applications that require a flush surface finish, and ledge handles for enclosures hatches and shutters. WDS handles are available in plastic, metal and stainless steel designs, and units are in stock for same-day despatch. As a new release, front-mounted tube bridge handles are available in a wide range

of hole centres, measured centre to centre between the handle’s two positioning holes, from 180 to 600mm. The handles are provided with an M8 thread size. The two-piece handles are assembled on site at WDS’ Leeds facility, meaning in stock availability of the entire size range for same day despatch. The bow handles feature an oval profile for easier grip, and are constructed from

polyamide. These have hole centres ranging from 94 to 179mm, and thread sizes include M6 and M8. The bow handle is also available in aluminium for premium applications. Powder coated in orange, the handle is available in a wider range of hole centres, from 100 to 350mm. A 304 grade stainless steel round profile bridge handle is also available for use in

food preparation environments where full and regular washdown is necessary, or where resistance to corrosion is required.

TOUCHSCREEN ENCLOSURES

Advanced touchscreen enclosures from OKW are growing in demand. These are suitable for a wide range of applications including IIoT/IoT, Industry 4.0, smart factory, measuring and control, medical and laboratory technology, offices, gateways, automation, data systems engineering and wireless communications. The SMART-PANEL houses edge-to-edge touchscreens

for building services, electrical installations, smart home and security systems. These can be fitted to standard flush- mount cavity wall boxes and have no visible fixing screws. Ergonomic SLIM-CASE (IP 54/65) accommodates

touchscreens up to 4” (10cm) for a wide range of high- mobility environmental technology and safety engineering applications. This has contoured sides, a bevelled rear panel, and an optional soft-touch intermediate ring make it comfortable to hold and operate. This houses low-profile components and assemblies in a compact space. Suitable for table-top or wall mounting, PROTEC (IP65

optional) has an ergonomic sloping front panel and is available in three sizes – all of which can be customised to house a touchscreen. The modular INTERFACE-TERMINAL (IP54 optional) can be

ordered in a range of configurations: mobile handheld units; sloping front table-top or wall mounted units; flush-mount units for fitting in walls or front panels for harmonious integration in visually sensitive locations such as historic buildings. An accessory glass screen can be specified for touchscreens (6.4”, 8.4” or 10.4”).

OKW www.okw.co.uk/en SOLUTIONS TO PROTECT LOW VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR

When housing low voltage switchgear, protecting the electrical system to keep it running, whatever the environmental conditions it faces, is essential. Whether for outdoor use or harsh indoor industrial settings, an IP rating sufficiently high to prevent ingress, combined with IK protection against impacts, are prerequisite enclosure requirements. So too is protecting operatives or the public from harm, which will typically be achieved with IEC Protection Class II. Once these are met, creating an enclosure

that fits switchgear protection requirements amongst situational design constraints is the

next challenge. While some facilities prefer steel enclosures, the difficulty in creating a flexible, modular, system in steel often results in an enclosure that is larger than required. Polycarbonate, meanwhile, provides high durability and design flexibility, allowing a modular approach where smaller enclosures fit together to protect a more precise area. Lighter than steel, polycarbonate also enables easier installation, especially for installing at height or in more complex settings. While the external structure of the housing

has to protect against ingress and impact, a common requirement of LV switchgear design is to segregate the architecture within the enclosure and provide isolated protection. To fit this need, the enclosure has to be modular with interconnected housings that can be easily designed and quickly assembled together, often without making additional modifications on-site. The modular approach taken by Spelsberg’s GTi enclosure features

removable flange panels that can be rapidly locked into place to isolate

20

areas of the switchgear network. Alternatively, they can be easily removed to allow connectivity of wiring and components. The enclosures and panels are flush-fit, leaving no penetrative gaps and affording maximum protection. Modularity and simple connectivity of enclosure walls also enable fast, easy expansion of the switchgear circuit if required at a later date. Spelsberg’s service helps engineers create the most effective structure according to the specification, reducing design time and ensuring that the required protection is achieved. With various size enclosures in widths up to

320mm and lengths up to 640mm, GTi housings can be fully interlinked and connected together with one connector for all sizes of enclosure. The enclosures are also available with pre-assembled fixtures such as bus bars and clamping points for distribution boards; and fuse and switch housings. For outdoor applications, built-in protection against lightning, with special screws for pressure balance, makes the installer’s task easier. Further customisation is also available from the company.
