software shortening development cycles and improving patient outcomes. We saw this during the Covid pandemic, where cutting-edge solutions were being brought to market faster and more efficiently. In fact you can take a look back at our coverage during 2020-2021 by visiting our digital issue archives on our website:
https://designsolutionsmag.co.uk/digital-editions/. Medical & pharmaceutical is, in fact, a fascinating
sector for innovation, so in our special focus this month we take a look at some interesting areas. For a start, we examine how digitalisation and the application of powerful technologies like the digital twin, AI and the industrial metaverse, will enable manufacturers to build a foundation for transformative capabilities that will enable them to develop new generations of devices and therapeutic drugs (page 42). We also take a look at an energy efficient injection moulding machine specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of medical device manufacture; and a variety of sensors suitable for use in the medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors (page 44). There is, however, a component that is essential in this sector, yet one that often gets
overlooked: Adhesives. Adhesives play a critical role in advancing medical device innovation and solving design challenges across the industry. As Henkel Adhesive Technologies explains, “As demands for efficiency, patient safety and product reliability grow, so too does the crucial role adhesives play in meeting these expectations.” Turn to page 40 to read the feature.
