FEATURE EXHIBITION PREVIEW Alongside a wide range of state-of-the-art processing and packaging machines,

suppliers of components and products aimed at those building such machinery will be showcasing their solutions at the PPMA Total Show 2019 from 1-3 October

PPMA TOTAL 2019: MUCH MORE THAN JUST THE MACHINERY...

A

s an exhibition that only comes round every three years, the PPMA Total

Show is being described as the UK’s largest event dedicated to state-of-the- art processing and packaging machinery. Taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, from 1-3 October, this will be the stage for exhibitors to showcase their latest products and solutions, with every aspect of the production line being represented – from labelling, filling and packaging to processing, robotics, automation and industrial vision systems. Sectors covered will include

food & beverage, pharmaceutical, confectionary, tobacco, building supplies & materials, pet food/care, cosmetics, household products, contract packers, microbrewers & distillers, etc. A huge range of processing and packing

machinery will be on display from companies like Ilapack, which will be showing its Vegatronic 6400 – a new continuous motion bagger that offers best-in-class hygiene and maximum uptime when packaging frozen meat products; AVE UK, which will launch its new range of bottling equipment; and Industrial Washing Machines, which will be displaying tray washers, cabinet utensil washers and boot washers. The exhibition, however, is not just

manufacturers displaying their latest machines to potential customers – suppliers of components and solutions aimed at those designing and building the machines will be playing an important role. One example here is HepcoMotion, which will showcase a range of products ideally suited to machine automation. For processing and packaging automation, visitors will be able to see the GFX Hepco Guidance System for Beckhoff XTS (eXtended Transport System). This solution utilises Hepco’s PRT2 and 1-Trak guidance systems to work with Beckhoff’s XTS circuit linear system to meet the needs of higher duty XTS applications, where motion profiles and long-term durability requirements are particularly demanding. Baumer, meanwhile, will be showcasing

its sensor solutions for packaging and food & beverage applications. It will also

be launching a multi-spot laser measurement sensor with Ethernet interface and webserver, plus IP67 ultrasonic sensors. Also on display, within the

theme of ‘Everything we do from Process to Packaging’, will be: the latest miniaturised photocells, Nextgen, hygienic and wash-down photo-electric sensors, FlexFlo, hygienic flow sensors and the Cleverlevel level sensor Other exhibitors range from ABB and

B&R Automation, to Mayr Transmissions, RS Components and Wittenstein.

SEMINARS & EDUCATION The centrepiece at PPMA Total 2019 will be Bloodhound SSC Education. Sponsored by Omron and Stemmer Imaging, this feature area will house a full-scale model of the 135,000 bhp jet and rocket powered car, aiming to break the Land Speed Record in the next two years. Here, visitors will have the opportunity

to learn more about one of the most advanced aerodynamic and engineering projects of the 21st century and how Bloodhound Education, a registered charity, is inspiring a generation to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the most exciting way possible. There will also be a full seminar

programme, with speakers addressing key industry issues; and an enterprise zone for networking and knowledge sharing. Key speakers will include Joanna Yarrow, head of Sustainable & Healthy Living -

IKEA Group, who will look at how people and businesses can help to make sustainability the new norm through greener materials, transportation and innovation; and Peter Conradi, europe editor - The Sunday Times, will give his view on the political and business climate from the other side of the channel. Other topics up for discussion will
