high PerFormance alloy launched Products

technology File

Alloy Wire International (AWI) has launched INCONEL: 617, a Chromium-Cobalt-Molybdenum alloy aluminium. This delivers increased strength and stability at elevated temperatures (up to 1100°C/2012°F), whilst retaining the high temperature corrosion resistance of INCONEL alloy 601. The high nickel and chromium content makes the alloy

resistant to a variety of both reducing and oxidising media, not to mention achieving comparable corrosion resistance to INCONEL 625, the company explains. Going forward, this wire is expected to be used to produce components destined for the aerospace,

medical, nuclear and petrochemical sectors – all high-tech industries that demand material that performs under the most extreme engineering conditions. “We’re going to start by offering this grade initially in the size range of 0.025 (.001”)

to 5.00mm (.197”), with each order made to customer specification within three weeks,” explained Andrew du Plessis, technical director at Alloy Wire International. “Areas of application can include springs and wire forms for aerospace components,

land-based gas turbines, power generation, acid processing, petrochemical processing to name but a few.”

robust module For saFety over io-link

With ifm electronic’s new robust AL200S PROFIsafe IO-Link module, it is now possible to operate standard safety sensors and actuators via IO-Link. Connected in the usual way to the A or B port of a normal AL1400 or AL1402 IO-Link master, the module uses a special PROFIsafe transmission telegram to provide ‘tunnelled’ communication with the safety controller. This allows it to meet the requirements for safety levels SIL3 (in accordance with IEC 61508) and PLe (in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1). The AL200S module provides eight safe

OSSD inputs plus four safe outputs that are powered from a separate 24V DC supply via an L-coded M12 connector. The outputs can be configured as PNP or NPN and each has a current rating of 2A, allowing the module to be used in conjunction with powerful actuators. The maximum total load for the module is 6A. Should it become necessary to replace

a module, fast and easy configuration of the replacement is provided by the optional PROFIsafe E7700S address plug. The IO-Link modules have IP65 or better

ingress protection rating and an operating temperature range of -25 to +60˚C.

compression latch provides visual indication of status

Southco has introduced the E3 VISE ACTION Compression Latch with Bi-Stable Cover. The cover includes a bi-stable hinge that permits the cover to be fully opened or fully closed only. When the latch is not fully closed, the cover cannot be closed and pops open, providing visual indication of latch status. When the latch is fully closed, the cover can also be fully closed, providing clear indication that the latch is secure. By allowing operators to easily detect latch status, the

E3 VISE ACTION Compression Latch with Bi-Stable Cover improves efficiency, enhances safety and reduces maintenance errors. Designed for heavy use, the cover also helps to protect it from dust and moisture. Tested to DIN EN 45545 and DIN EN 61373,

the Latch series complies with rail industry standards for fire resistance and vibration.

agvs and amrs beneFit From new dc motors

Based on the successful BLV series, the BLV-R Series of low voltage input power DC motors from Oriental Motor feature enhancements designed to make them a cost-effective solution in AGVs and AMRs. The motors have been designed with enhanced

speed capabilities and a proprietary communication system. The low voltage input power DC motor drivers measure just 75mm x 65mm x 29mm, and have a mass of only 120g. These are also compact – for example, a 100W motor with a 30:1 gearbox measures 108.4mm in length and weighs just 2.4kg. In addition, the usable voltage

range is now 15VDC to 55VDC, with a speed control range of 1:4000rpm. This wide input range is particularly beneficial for AGV operation, handling voltage changes which AGVs can find difficult to manage. Improved higher resolution, positional Hall sensors within

the motors enhance motor feedback, improve stopping accuracy and lower speed operation; and improved torque control within the drivers results in stable speeds which can be easily maintained. The BLV-R Series also has accurate torque control all the way down to 1rpm. Typically, these levels of performance are very difficult for brushless DC motors to achieve, but are essential requirements in AGVs because this allows them to make move and make very accurate turns smoothly. The ATL function allows the

motors to deliver up to 300% of the rated torque continuously unless the driver’s thermal alarm is triggered.; and the proprietary

ID Share Mode allows commands to be sent to multiple motors simultaneously.

highly accurate inductive sensor ic launched

Melexis has introduced its first open market inductive sensor IC. The MLX90510 is said to offer exceptional accuracy <+/-0.36° at up to 240,000 e-rpm and is designed for demanding high speed sensing applications with high accuracy, EMC and safety requirements. It is intended for use in e-motor (e-axle), e-brake booster and e-power steering applications, the company explains. The MLX90510 offers differential Sine and Cosine analogue outputs and is based on a digital

architecture. It comprises Melexis’ patented tracking loop technology. This innovative architecture brings several advantages: • The system propagation delay is trimmed to 0ns with a maximum of ±120ns residual variations over the entire operating temperature range.

• Input offset compensation and zero output-angle position adjustment are performed within the IC, lowering the effort on the ECU.

• The 3-phase based coil design simplifies linearity optimization. • Decoupling between the input and output enables unprecedented EMC performances. It also ensures stable output amplitudes independently from the airgap related input signal strength.

• The linearization feature, with up to 16 calibration points, deals with the non-linearities of challenging sensor modes like side-of-shaft.
