EXHIBITION PREVIEW SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING & ELECTRONICS

southern manuFacturing & electronics returns!

Thousands of

engineering products and services await visitors to the

20,000m² Farnborough International Exhibition Centre in Hampshire when Southern Manufacturing &

Electronics makes its

long-awaited return on 8-10 February 2022

D

espite the turmoil of the last 20 months, many of Southern Manufacturing & Electronics’ regular exhibitors were eager

to reclaim their place at the UK’s largest annual industrial exhibition. In fact the number and diversity of firms taking part ensures that its reputation as one of the most comprehensive engineering technology shows in the UK remains firmly intact, the organiser explains. Participants from all across the UK, continental Europe and beyond will be taking part in the event, offering a spectacular array of products and services – from high-tech machine tools and automation to components, design and build, and a wide variety of subcontract and business services.

oem solutions

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics is a great place to locate components and OEM parts from a huge range of vendors. Given the difficulties of travel at the moment, the incredible selection of components gathered under one roof is a rare opportunity to get on top of multiple procurement challenges in a very efficient manner.

The show also welcomes major European

distributors such as Transfer Multisort Elektronik, which has a presence in 11 countries and carries over 500,000 product lines from 1,200 major brands. The product portfolio includes semiconductors, IoT equipment, optoelectronics, passive and electromechanical components, connectors, plus much more. From Turkey, Ozdisan Elektronik is the region’s largest electronic component distributor. It’s $35m product portfolio spans semi-conductors, passive components and electro-mechanical parts from over 200 named brands. The firm also offers PCB production and assembly, together with a full EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Service) with nine SMT lines offering double-side SMT and through- hole assembly capability to ISO and IATF-16949.

Subcontract expertise is also much in evidence,

with everything from design and contract assembly to PCB production and inspection. Electronics design and software development consultancy Ignys will be offering specialist advice on designing around the global chip shortage; and Esprit Electronics will highlight its range of services, including PCB assembly, NPI, DFT/DFM, test and inspection, conformal coating or box build. PCB specialists returning for 2022 include European Circuits and Shenzhen X-Mulong. There’s also lots to see in the area of electronics production hardware, with top- flight suppliers such as Mycronic and Blundell Production Equipment returning for 2022.

Free to attend seminars New products on show on the Midas Displays

stand will include smart TFT displays with CAN bus interface, and RGB LCDs. Secure embedded memory products will be showcased by Nexus Industrial Memory, including its Flexxon’s X-PHY solid state drives (SSD), selected by Lenovo for use in the world’s first ‘all-in-one’ AI cybersecurity laptops. RF Solutions will be displaying additions to its range of LoRa radio modules launched back in 2019, together with its latest HIRK modules, launched 2021; while Broadband Technology 2000 will showcase its recently launched GFlex RF telecom scanning receiver. This operates at 10MHz to 8GHz and 24 to 48GHz and can collect all the mmWave and sub-8GHz data needed for drive test, walk test, and government applications in one pass. Advanced manufacturing is well represented

at this year’s show, with Laser Lines giving live demonstrations of three new additive manufacturing technologies, together with DyeMansion post processing technology, to create a full end-to-end manufacturing solution. In addition, Bowyer Engineering will launch its in-house designed 3D printer, Orochi. The system is designed to overcome the limitations of existing 3D printers in the manufacture of components and assemblies used in applications such as on-wing inspection equipment manipulators designed to place sensors and probes in difficult to reach places.

2 DESIGN SOLUTIONS DECEMBER/JANUARY 2022 0

With UK business now operating in a very different world to that which existed during the previous show, keeping abreast of the latest legislation and management strategies has never been more important. So, the ever- popular free seminar programme also returns for 2022, albeit in a socially-distanced format. Among the topics being discussed, Paul

Grabham looks at the impacts of post Brexit and Covid-19 on HMRC R&D Tax Credits. Tim Scurlock of Applied Lean Consulting gives some ideas on how to drive continuous improvement in your business; Graham Cooper offers tips on energy usage reduction in manufacturing; and Nick Aitken and Dr Alex Martin give advice on how to handle a product safety incident. Sessions run over all three days and a full list is available on the show’s website.
