COMPaCT MULTIDRIVE CaN bE USED IN haRSh ENVIRONMENTS

New from Inovance Technology Europe is the MD800, a compact and cost-effective AC multidrive designed to meet the needs of European OEMs for flexible and scalable

multidrive performance. Its modular design enables up to eight drives to be supplied from one rack with a

single rectifier, sharing energy through the common DC bus. Features include an individual STO (safe torque off) on each drive, the ability to control PM and induction motors from a single software package, a +24 VDC control backup supply, and a full range of fieldbus and I/O expansion option cards. Meanwhile, the dual rating of each drive module allows heavy duty 150% overload for demanding torque applications, or normal duty 110% overload for fan and pump applications. Suitable for use in harsh environments, this has 3C3 and 3S2

conformal coating, an operating temperature range of -20 to +60˚C, an operating altitude of up to 4,000m, and a separate cooling channel for the heatsink. The multidrive is said to offer a significantly reduced total cost of

ownership. Installation costs in particular are slashed as a result of user-friendly pluggable, spring type connectors, and a faster build time due to reduced wiring and fewer external components.

32MM DIaMETER hIgh SPEED STEPPER MOTOR OffERS a RaNgE Of fEaTURES

Said to be capable of achieving speeds five times that of comparable stepper motors, the AM3248 stepper motor from FAULHABER delivers exceptional performance in a compact size. Available in the UK from Electro Mechanical Systems (EMS), the multi-pole, two phase AM3248 motor performs 48 steps per revolution and offers speeds up to 10,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). Exhibiting a low inertia, it can deliver high speed from the very first step, making it well suited to applications that require fast acceleration and quick changes in direction. Additional features include a high holding torque of 85 millinewton meters (mNm).

Combined with a gearhead reduction of 100:1, the motor can supply torque of five Newton meters (Nm). Paired with a FAULHABER 32GPT gearhead, the performance values the new stepper motor achieves for its size are unrivalled on the market, it claims. Despite this the stepper motor has a diameter of just 32mm, making it ideal for

applications in areas such as aerospace, large optical systems, the semiconductor industry, robotics and 3D printing. For instance, in the aerospace industry, the AM3248 stepper motor could be used to move satellite booms that are responsible for positioning solar panels, so that they are always in direct alignment with the sun. Designed to perform reliably for many years, its high reliability makes it

advantageous in applications that require consistency, such as laboratory automation. Here, each action, such as pumping out the required dose of a medicine, must be performed with fine repeatability. As the UK’s sole supplier of

FAULHABER motors, EMS offers a range of add-ons that can be paired with the new motor to advance its performance further. As an example, incredibly fine speed control can be achieved by combining the AM3248 with a FAULHABER IE3 magnetic encoder.

motor design benefits european sugar producer

Menzel Elektromotoren has configured a flexible spare motor for one of Europe’s leading sugar producers, which can replace motors of various other makes if necessary. The three-phase squirrel cage motor has been specifically designed for the sugar

beet pulp dryers in four plants in Germany and Sweden. The customer can, however, employ it in any of its plants around the world if needed. With a rated output of 1400kW, it covers the drive power requirements of four

separate systems, which range from 1000kW to 1400kW. It is designed as a vertical motor for flange mounting (IM V1 standing or IM V3 suspended). In addition, an adapter also manufactured by Menzel enables foot mounting in a system with a V2 flange. The motor with cooling type IC 616 meets the protection class IP55. According to the company, more and more large organisations are looking to

utilise spare assets over multiple processes and it is therefore the go-to supplier in this niche market. The modular MEBKSL motor series enables a variety of cooling types and ingress protection ratings as well as various mounting options at optimized production costs. The tried-and-tested design meets high standards in terms of size, performance, cost-effectiveness and reliability.

digital motor control configurator developed

RS Components (RS) has introduced an interactive digital motor control configurator, designed in partnership with Schneider Electric. This can be found at: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/ generalDisplay.html?id=schneider-ask-the-expert. The Ask the Expert digital motor control configurator

is an intuitive graphics-based product selection tool that helps automation engineers to configure motor control systems quickly and easily. A talking avatar called Stan guides engineers through a simple stepwise process of inputting required parameters, such as power supply voltage, motor power and contactor coil voltage. Ask the Expert then presents matching product options that allow engineers to make a full system selection, including relevant inverter drives, contactors and motor starters. Kristian Olsson, global vice president of Automation &

Control, RS Components, said: “The development of Ask the Expert demonstrates the potential of digital interactive tools in simplifying product selection. It is another step on our journey to transform the lives of industrial engineers through digital experiences. We look forward to strengthening our ongoing digital collaboration with Schneider Electric to encompass a wider range of products and solutions in the field of automation and control.”
