Luceco selected to provide principle luminaires for Wexham Park Hospital

Luceco has worked with Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust to relight areas of Wexham Park Hospital located in Berkshire. The hospital was built on the site of a Victorian mansion known as Wexham Park; the design led to an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects. After an exhaustive selection process, Luceco was engaged to provide a detailed survey for Wexham Park and Frimley Park Hospitals becoming a key supplier to Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which covers Wexham Park, Frimley Park and Heatherwood Hospitals.

LED LuxPanels from Luceco were the principle luminaires utilised due to their energy efficiency and cost effectiveness, being quick and easy to install with remote 'plug and play' drivers. Nigel Ford, Project Manager from Luceco said: “The lighting design, supply and installation of the LED luminaire retrofit refurbishment required precision planning and contractors had to work within limited timeframes, to ensure minimal disruption to

patients and medical personnel”. He continued, “In many areas we had to work with the existing suspended ceiling grid which involved the fabrication of custom luminaire fixing brackets to ensure the speed of installation could be maintained and the retrofit programme was not delayed due to issues on site”.

Other circulation areas to benefit from the LED lighting refurbishment included corridors and consultancy rooms lit with the Academy luminaire. Academy benefits from an opal prism diffuser with screw secured endcaps and can be surface mounted or suspended. It also has a central cable entry with BESA fixings spaced at 600mm, so are ideal for retrofitting traditional fluorescent lamped fittings in healthcare environments. Wexham Park Hospital now enjoys the energy saving efficiencies of LED lighting, a more pleasing lit environment and a saving of over 66% on return on their investment through use of modern lighting technology.

Mitsubishi Electric delivers the sweet smell of success to Lush Ltd

Mitsubishi Electric’s City Mul VRF heat recovery system installed in cosmecs retailer Lush’ new oce space in Poole

Ethical cosmetics retailer Lush is now able to deliver energy efficient air conditioning to employees at its new office space in Poole thanks to the installation of Mitsubishi Electric’s City Multi VRF heat recovery system.

Lush expanded its business with a new unit at Dolphin Quays, a complex made up of both residential apartments and office spaces. The units came equipped with running water and electricity, but Lush needed comforts for employees, including air conditioning, to be installed.

The solution came in the form of 12 ceiling- suspended City Multi VRF indoor units and one floor-positioned unit, installed by Modern Facilities Services, a Mitsubishi Electric Accredited Installer. The system is able to move excess heat, generated from an area which is being cooled, to other parts of the building which need heating, helping to deliver the high levels of efficiency that Lush required. The City Multi system also offers outstanding energy saving performance,

advanced control system and flexibility of design for specifiers and installers. The long pipe-runs and ability to connect up to 50 indoor units to one outdoor condenser means that it offers advanced, controllable energy efficient comfort to suit almost any building.

Krystal James, Project Coordinator at Lush, said “We wanted a system that would create a pleasant working environment for our staff, whilst fitting comfortably into the office environment. We also wanted to make sure we avoided any draughts for our employees.”

Two Lossnay Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units were also installed at the site in order to remove stale air from the office. The units operate by capturing up to 80% of the temperature of the outgoing air, meaning less energy is needed to bring fresh outdoor air up to the indoor temperature.

There were a number of challenges during the installation which Mitsubishi Electric and Modern Facilities Services were able to overcome, including the need to create additional frameworks for the units to sit on, and working with a large amount of existing pipework at the site.
