INSTALLATION NEWS

Luceco has recently supplied over 2,500 LuxFrame luminaires to Gargash Hospital, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Gargash Hospital is UAE’s first female owned, mulspecialty, terary care hospital with primary focus on women’s health and childcare

The facilities comprise of two basement levels, a ground floor and two additional floors offering numerous hospital beds.

LuxFrame is a minimalist LED luminaire designed with simplicity in mind for suspended ceiling grid applications, enabling the creation of imaginative lighting with cost effectiveness and energy efficiency in mind. The LED luminaires brought spaces alive with colour and light whilst still creating a relaxing atmosphere supporting patient sleep cycles and enhancing the healing environment. Communal spaces, corridors, patient bedrooms, examination suites, nurse stations and consultation rooms were illuminated with LuxFrame, designed to deliver functional lighting in an architectural yet cost effective manner. Both high and low lumen output LuxFrame luminaires with dimmable options were used with IP rated LuxPanels supplied for Laboratory areas and Mosi, a robust circular utility bulkhead, used in stairwells.

Installed around the ceiling tile, LuxFrame

provides an interesting lighting effect, whilst maintaining the integrity of the ceiling. As with other LuxPanel products from Luceco, LuxFrame offers over 50,000 hours of operational life with no maintenance, available with DALI dimmable drivers and with emergency back-up variants. Lighting plays an important role in healthcare, improving both the patient experience and the staff’s ability to provide high levels of care. Not only a sustainable choice, LED lighting can enhance the care environment and reduce costs by saving energy and improving operational efficiency. The latest LED technology from Luceco provides a relaxed atmosphere for patients and a dynamic working environment for staff.

Constructed this year, Gargash Hospital now demonstrates excellence in gynaecology, obstetrics, paediatrics and general wellbeing, providing emotional support as well patient education. Approximately 2800 LED luminaires were supplied by Luceco to Gargash Hospital in

partnership with Energy partner Ali Haji Abdulla Awazi Gargash and Gargash Lighting Systems.

Safesite has installed a number of horizontal lifeline safety systems for the Environment Agency to allow essenal maintenance and recordings of river levels around London and the South East of England

Rubbish and debris from the river need to be cleared regularly so that the water’s flow is not impaired, and the weirs kept clear to allow accurate recordings of river levels and flows to be taken. However, in order to clear this waste from the trash screens and weirs, workers need to work away from the river banks which led to the Environment Agency contacting Safesite to provide a safe means of maintenance access at a number of locations.

Safesite’s KeeLine protection systems provide the workers with a safe working position, allowing them to maintain the waterway and ensure that it is kept as clean as possible. Designed as a

continual ‘handsfree’ system, the horizontal lifeline allows the workers to clear the debris and take river readings without having to detach themselves from the fall protection system, so guaranteeing safety at all times. A further benefit is that KeeLine can be used by up to three people when used in fall arrest, which allows the Environment Agency to have two workers using the system at the same time when required. The Environment Agency was looking not only for a local supplier, but also one that could provide both customer and full technical support, which Safesite was able to fulfil. The installation of the KeeLine

horizontal lifeline systems allow operatives to work unhindered and in complete safety across the fast flowing water to keep the rivers flowing freely and overcoming the potential for localised flooding.

KeeLine is designed to provide safe access by allowing workers to be permanently attached to the line at all times and to move freely around an area. The system is designed so that the traveller which connect the user to the systems simply glides over brackets which overcomes the need to detach from the lifeline. KeeLine is fully compliant to EN 795:212.

www.safesite.co.uk Modern, highly ecient and high performance lighng

Zumtobel Lighng has created individual soluons for a number of dierent areas of the stateoftheart Manor Road Building, part of The University of Oxford

The client’s brief called for modern, highly efficient lighting with high performance and excellent aesthetics that would not compromise the original Norman Foster visual lighting effect, whilst providing a more sustainable higher education facility and a perfect environment for learning. Zumtobel was chosen for the project because of its market leading efficiencies combined with the required architectural aesthetic for every area of the building to meet the stringent requirements of The University of Oxford’s facilities management team and provide a full design service.

Originally designed by world class architect Sir Norman Foster, the Manor Road site is home to timetables and building information for staff, students and visitors who are based at and attend events in the building. The Manor Road Building is home to several units of the Social Sciences Division and also houses the unified Social Science Library. To maintain as much of the original design aesthetic as possible, the majority of luminaires

have been supplied in custom four

metre lengths and finished in black. For the offices MIREL Evolution, with its clean, minimalist design, was the ideal solution, as it is in keeping with the existing fittings and the light source is not visible when looking across the room. This luminaire is particularly suitable for offices, classrooms and any space where discomfort glare needs to be controlled. The unique LED optics combine directional light distribution while maintaining an unmatched value of UGR < 16. Light guided via

Zumtobel's advanced Quadrification Lens Optic (QLO) allows for high lighting quality, perfect glare control and batwing light distribution. LIGHT FIELDS, with its minimalist, unobtrusive design has been installed in the lecture theatres to provide the perfect lighting quality thanks to a micro-pyramidal optic, which is precisely tuned to suit the distribution characteristics of the LED lighting points.

www.zumtobel.co.uk Zumtobel provides the perfect light for Surrey Sports Park

When Surrey Sports Park, one of Europe's premier sites for sport, health, wellbeing and leisure, needed an upgrade to its lighng controls, Zumtobel Lighng came up with a perfect soluon that cked all the boxes

Read the latest at: www.bsee.co.uk

The existing lighting controls used old dimming and switching technology that was incompatible with the latest luminaire technology and was reliant on expensive service engineers for programming and maintenance. Utilising Zumtobel’s Litecom system and the company’s CRAFT luminaires, a scheme was designed that provided upgradable technologies that are compatible with todays IP world and that can be easily upgraded to incorporate new luminaires and technology. Surrey Sports Park is the permanent training base of Harlequins Rugby Club, Sure League netball team Surrey Storm, British basketball league club Surrey Heat, and UK top- five swimming club Guildford City.

The overriding factor in the brief for the refurbishment project was to improve the quality of lighting in critical areas such as the main arenas and squash courts using funding recouped from the energy savings obtained. This was made possible with the use of LITECOM, an incredibly flexible, great value lighting control system in conjunction with Zumtobel’s CRAFT high bay luminaires that add extra uniformity and efficiency to every lighting solution. CRAFT incorporates a

carefully engineered housing and reflector concept, combined with innovative lens optics, ensuring an optimised light distribution and glare control (UGR 22) which, in turn, ensures excellent lighting quality. CRAFT has been used in the small arena, the main arena and the squash courts to provide a pleasant lighting atmosphere that helps enhance the safety and wellbeing of users.

The new LITECOM system is packed with software driven features that negates the need to replace modules when something different is required. It is also modular, therefore could be easily retro fitted to reuse the existing wiring and, more importantly, the facility could continue to run as usual and didn’t need to shut down whilst work was being carried out.

The original design for the main arena was for 500 lux and the new installation required 1000 lux for potential TV coverage of events. The arenas are also using the shows APPS to create lighting patterns during live televised events.
