Manufacturers, distributors and installers all have a stake in ensuring that the services of residenal estates run eciently all the me. Downme can make life dicult with a single service fault oen bringing wider ramificaons for the property owner as well as cung down on profits for all. To help ensure that services connue to run as they should, and profits rise rather than fall, Birmingham based mechanical and electrical services provider J S Wright has pioneered a collaborave service agreement with its suppliers
T
hree years ago, the 129- year-old contractor signed a solus supply agreement with manufacturer Grundfos Pumps and its distributor G M Treble for pumps, pressurisation units and water boosters for residential developments.
The industry leading initiative was designed to continuously provide a top-quality service for the design, delivery and installation of key mechanical systems while giving the end client consistent value for money. Proving integral to the uninterrupted functioning of plantrooms across London, all three parties have now signed a new agreement that extends the collaboration to fire protection packages and building systems maintenance.
Aimed at increasing business volume and reducing costs all round, the new agreement has committed all three parties to rectifying any pump-related operational issues within 24 hours based on a hotline call out system. This means that if Wright Maintenance, J S Wright’s
maintenance company, cannot rectify a fault as first responder, then G M Treble will step in to attempt the repair. If the issue remains unresolved, then an engineer from Grundfos as the equipment manufacturer will attend in turn within the time frame.
The protocol, which does away with time-consuming pre-ordering, has been supplemented by an agreement for Grundfos to update J S Wright on the progress of specialist equipment sales to its subcontractors, ensuring as project manager that all service projects and programmes remain on schedule.
The pilot agreement, which will be effective until the end of 2020, covers a 30-month warranty period on all Grundfos products.
Phil Leech, J S Wright managing director, said: “Minimising downtime as a result of a system failure is one of the biggest challenges for our industry. “A single fault with a boosted cold- water system, for instance, can affect both the hot and cold-water supplies to many apartments. A circulation pump failure can result in a loss of heating to a similar number of properties. “Our agreement with such loyal and trustworthy suppliers has given us an excellent business model for providing a top-quality competitively priced supply, installation and maintenance service for pump systems. “It has also played a major role in making us the preferred choice of M&E services contractor for multi-million-pound residential regeneration projects.”
The tripartite agreement extends to Grundfos providing advice and training in its pump systems to J S Wright and G M Treble staff, and to the commissioning of all Grundfos systems by its own service commissioning engineers.
J S Wright has also given G M Treble the opportunity to price-match if it finds that comparative options are cheaper, ensuring that clients receive consistent value for money. It has also agreed to recommend Grundfos where the manufacturer for any project has not been specified by the developer. Stuart Herritty, G M Treble director, said: “The openness and trust established over many years of trading with J S Wright has led G M Treble to place enormous value in the two-way relationship between our companies. “The benefit of such an arrangement is that both sides can rely on the integrity of the other to operate quickly to overcome the inevitable issues that occasionally arise from a complex trading relationship.
“It’s an old-fashioned concept: dealing on the basis of mutual respect and professionalism.”
All three companies already collaborate from the design stage in computer-aided pump selection with Building Information Modelling (BIM) compatibility.
Glynn Williams, director of sales, Commercial Building Services for Grundfos Pumps, said: “For me, having a close working relationship with J S Wright and G M Treble allows Grundfos to push innovation at the earliest possible stage in the design process. “Having the most energy efficient products on the market is a key differentiator for Grundfos; however, integrating the technology into intelligent systems with digital connectivity brings key client benefits from control and cost of ownership perspectives, with all tri-party partners offering tangible value to the client.” Leech added: “The new agreement reinforces our commitment to consistency, competitive pricing and collaboration from design to completion and beyond, in what is a win-win solution to the problem of downtime for everyone.”
