Teesside pump manufacturer and distributor celebrates 100 years in business

B

illingham based pump distributor & manufacturer,

Tomlinson Hall,

celebrated its 100th year in business last month with bumper sales figures and a charitable campaign that is benefitting hundreds of individuals across the region. The Teesside firm, which was founded in 1919 by Alfred Tomlinson and Frank Hall, has grown exponentially from its humble beginnings

operating from a single unit in Stockton to its current 1.5- acre site in Billingham. The firm now boasts the accolade of being the sole UK distributor for many of the world’s leading industrial brands, as well as being the manufacturer of its own disruptive and industry leading pump technology, the Liquivac.

A founder member of the British Pump Manufacturer Association (BPMA) and now under the custodianship of third generation Tomlinson and MD, Tony Keville, the

company has secured a number of award wins in its centenary year and is firmly positioning itself as the go to provider of cutting-edge pump technology. Awards have included a Lifetime Achievement accolade together with awards for SME and Pump Distributor of the Year.

Speaking about the 100- year celebrations and the firm’s continued success, business development director, Colin Simpson said: “We firmly believe our success is based on a number of factors; the outstanding knowledge and impressive technical capabilities of our team, first and foremost, combined with our passion for constant innovation and the fact that we are not tied to any one pump brand or technology.” And to mark its success, Tomlinson Hall is celebrating its 100th year in business by choosing a combination of 12 charitable causes that include giving back to local community projects, national and local charities,

including the likes of the Peoples Kitchen through CEO Sleepout, Billingham South Community Primary School, and The James Cook University Hospital. Each month the company is donating 100 much sought- after items including sleeping bags for the homeless, a £100 donation, which became £1000 to Make a Wish Foundation, and 100 food donations to animal charities.

Commenting on what Tomlinson Hall has named its

‘100 for 100’ campaign, Simpson added: “It was very important to us that, as part of our centenary celebrations, we did something that reflected the company’s commitment to charitable causes.”

Operating from its facilities in Billingham, comprising two workshops on its 1.5-acre site, Tomlinson Hall provides a full end to end service from pump selection, supply and site visits, right through to servicing and repairs and has a strategic growth plan.

Installers are missing out on free cash E

ight out of ten heating engineers could be missing out on free cash, vouchers, and freebies, according to new research conducted by Expert Trades in partnership with Heatrae Sadia.

The research has revealed that 86 per cent of respondents who have fitted a Megaflo cylinder are not a member of ‘Megaflo Rewards’, meaning that hundreds of installers are routinely missing out on numerous work perks.

Set up in 2013 to train and equip tradespeople with the tools and knowledge required to grow their businesses, Expert Trades has recently partnered with leading cylinder manufacturer Megaflo. The partnership

led to research being undertaken into how installers can benefit from the Megaflo Rewards scheme.

The research highlighted how 40 per cent of respondents believed that they were not installing enough cylinders to be eligible for Megaflo Rewards. However, installers can start earning points from the moment they install their first cylinder, saving them up to redeem holiday vouchers, work wear, tools, magazine subscriptions and cashback. The scheme also has several other benefits, including priority next day engineer call out, access to expert help and resources, and free annual service reminders. temperatures set to rise by up to four degrees centigrade by 2100, some £1bn a year might be needed to be spent on flood management. Insurance statistics reveal that the most likely cause of claims in commercial buildings, retail premises, hotels and apartment blocks is water damage. UK insurers confirm that water leakage is now the costliest and most common claim made by commercial customers with a total loss in the UK alone approaching £800 million.

The financial sector is particularly vulnerable to such potential losses with Data Centre outages costing an average of £12,000 per minute, hourly losses on the Stock Exchange around £4.5 million and Credit Card Clearance around £1.8 million. Water leakage damage costs alone can be significant and it is not just the obvious cost of physical damage to IT equipment and the fabric of

the building, because even a minor water leak can result in significant business interruption including temporary relocation, increased employment costs and loss of prots. Vimpex, a leading UK independent manufacturer and distributor of life safety products, advises that the efficient way to mitigate the risk of water damage is to continuously monitor for water leaks. Leading the way in water detection technology is the Vimpex Hydrosense system, which, with its Vimpex Hydro-Cryer voice sounders, comprises a sophisticated configurable water leak detection system. Hydrosense systems deliver water leak detection to protect areas where water ingress could seriously damage electrical, communication and computer networks. It continuously monitors for water leaks around the clock, year in year out, with the facility for 72-hour battery standby in the event of power failure. Vimpex life safety technology provides the reliability and integrity of BSi approved fire detection systems, meaning there is virtually no risk of failure, downtime and significantly fewer false alarms.
