INDUSTRY COMMENT

Why awards can offer more than individual reward

Whether it’s the Oscars, the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), or the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) Awards, highlighting and acknowledging the incredible talent and innovation shown throughout the year is absolutely imperative

O

f course, while scooping an award gives the winner the chance to show they’re the best at what they do and display their trophy with pride, there

are plenty of other significant benefits, either for the successful few or all the shortlisted entrants.

Put simply, the most talented employees primarily want to work for the very best companies. So, competing for or winning an award isn’t just about showing off to competitors, it’s also about establishing the company as an industry leader to attract potential new staff.” Being an award winner can also have a similar impact when it comes to attracting new clients. Indeed, potential new clients would no doubt prefer to hire an established award-winning industry leader rather than a competitor. With competition getting ever- fiercer, businesses that win awards are able to solidify themselves as innovative and driven experts worthy of investment. Whether shortlisted for an award, or the winner of it, any business will see a substantial boost to its standing in the industry. In fact, competing for an award will act as a seal of approval that highlights to potential customers and suppliers that the company offers a quality product – no matter if it is an established organisation or a fledgling start-up. Aside from the awards evening being a highly

exciting and momentous occasion and one business owners and employees can enjoy equally, winning – or even just entering – an award is a superb way for workforces to be recognised for their hard work and dedication. Staff will therefore often be more motivated, content, and proud of the work they’re doing as a result. It’s important to note that awards don’t just benefit the individual or organisation – they can make a huge difference to the profile of the sector, too. Shining a spotlight on the talented businesses, innovations, and individuals in the industry is a superb way of promoting the important work the sector does to those less aware. As an organisation keen to focus on the

incredible talent working throughout the sector, the BCIA hosts an annual awards evening, celebrating a variety of accomplishments that

range from Apprentice of the Year to Building Controls & BEMS Installer of the Year and Best Service & Maintenance Provider. This year’s BCIA Awards evening will take place on Thursday 1st May 2025 at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham. Recognised as the biggest awards in the building controls and automation sector, the BCIA awards shine a spotlight on the talented professionals that make up the industry. The award finalists have now been announced – you can see the full list of those shortlisted by clicking https://www.bcia.co.uk/award- finalists-2025
