Instrumentation Excellence Awards: Meet the finalists
WHAT IS THE GENII ADVANCED MODULAR CALIBRATION SYSTEM, AND WHAT IS ITS PRIMARY FUNCTION? Druck’s Genii Advanced Modular Calibration System is a flexible calibration system that comprises of up to four basic components, creating the only truly modular, portable calibration system offering on the market. The function of the system is to test and calibrate pressure, temperature and electrical devices, for commercial and harsh environment applications.
WHAT ARE THEY KEY COMPONENTS OF THE GENII ADVANCED MODULAR CALIBRATION SYSTEM?
Central to the Genii system is the DPI620G Series electrical or multifunction calibrator. With seven models available to choose from, each with varying functionality from a basic electrical calibrator at a low price point, to a multifunction calibrator with HART, Profibus, Fieldbus and Bluetooth, the user can opt for a calibrator that meets the requirement.
Creating flexible pressure ranges in the Genii system is possible through the PM620 Series; these interchangeable pressure modules are a simple screw-in fit application to extend the pressure range from 2.5 mbar to 1,000 bar. For portable pressure generation in the field, the PV620 Series provides pneumatic and hydraulic pressure from vacuum to 1,000 bar. The pressure generation stations are a uniquely capable, re-arrangeable and self-contained pressure test system that all models of the DPI620G Series securely clips into. Within this portfolio is the new PV624 portable hybrid pressure, offering market leading speed to stable set point, achieved through combining manual pressure generation with automatic pressure generation and control from 0.25pa to 20bar. Ideal for portable flexible pressure measurement, the MC620 Pressure module carriers are an accessory for the DPI620G when single or dual pressure measurement is needed. The MC620 is attached to the DPI620G device and PM620 modules are screwed in to offer two independent pressure channels up to 1,000 bar.
HOW DOES THE SYSTEM WORK? At its basic form, the Genii Advanced Modular Calibrator consists of an electrical or multifunction calibrator to enable the measurement and sourcing of typical electrical signals found on a process plant. The electrical capability can easily be expanded to create a pressure calibrator which is an essential device that both generates pressure and measures a pressure reading from of a device under test (DUT) to calibrate pressure sensing equipment. This is a critical function within the measurement industry to ensure optimal performance and safety. With pressure sensors being set at different pressure ranges, uncertainty specifications and locations,
GENII ADVANCED MODULAR CALIBRATION SYSTEM
a calibration system needs to be flexible and reliable to meet the varied requirements. With multiple use-cases for the Genii Advanced Modular Calibration System; from simple pressure and electrical calibrations to pressure generation and calibration to validate a pressure transducer, calibration technicians can chop-and-change components of the Genii system out to suit the application.
The system is designed to be totally modular, meaning all previous and future additions to the portfolio will integrate with units already owned.
WHY IS THE GENII ADVANCED MODULAR CALIBRATION SYSTEM IMPORTANT FOR PORTABLE CALIBRATION?
The parameters of portable calibration changes with each application; pressure ranges, access to a DUT and location all vary. Most portable calibration equipment is fixed in pressure range, meaning certain devices can only be used for certain applications. Meaning operators having to invest in multiple calibrators to cover a plant’s calibration needs.
Flexible pressure generation and measurement in the field is therefore of significant value to operators. Choosing the Genii Advanced Modular Calibration System gives operators a totally flexible, calibration system that can be automated with calibration management software. Users can chop-and- change components of the Genii system to change pressure ranges depending on the application. The cost of ownership of the Genii system versus traditional, non-modular calibration equipment is also significantly less.
WHAT DIFFERENT CALIBRATION TECHNOLOGIES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET AND WHY IS THE DRUCK TECHNOLOGY SUPERIOR?
Whilst there are many portable calibration systems are available on the market, none offer the modularity and performance of the Genii
Calibration System. With the purchase of a single, often expensive, automatic pressure calibrator, users are fixed to one pressure range, meaning a calibration technician needs multiple, non- compatible devices to complete a workload. The advantages of the Druck option comes back to the core purpose of the Genii system – modularity. A calibration technician needs only one DPI620G device, but with the addition of pressure modules, a module carrier or a pressure base, the calibrator can perform across a wide range of pressure ranges to the required accuracy specification.
ARE THERE ANY CHALLENGES OR CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USING A CALIBRATOR?
There are a few parameters to consider when choosing a calibrator, or calibration system; the first being technology. An industry veteran and pressure pioneer, Druck’s sensing technology used in the Genii Advanced Modular Calibration System has been refined over the past 50+ years to offer reliable pressure measurement, time after time. Performance and price are two key considerations when choosing a calibrator. Operators are regularly reviewing budgets and inventory in order to reduce costs whilst maintaining, or optimising performance. The Genii Advanced Modular Calibration System offers a price competitive purchase price, with a low lifecycle cost to provide a low cost of ownership versus purchasing non-range flexible calibrators. As a Druck portable calibrator, the Genii system offers reliable and accurate pressure measurement and generation. Utilising over 50 years of experience and pedigree in pressure measurement and sensing, Druck is uniquely positioned to support customers across the globe with their pressure challenges.
