DATA LOGGING SOFTWARE SOLVES KEY AUTOMOTIVE CHALLENGES
N
I has announced FlexLogger configuration-based data logging software for validation test. With intuitive workflows and integrated data management, FlexLogger helps automotive test departments quickly capture accurate, well-documented data to verify system functionality in real-world conditions and comply with strict government regulations. Technology innovations in areas like active safety, electrification
and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication are disrupting how the automotive industry designs, tests and produces vehicles. Rapidly evolving components and systems demand a higher volume of testing with accurate, traceable results to exceed safety- critical expectations for quality and reliability. These trends are pulling automotive test departments in different directions, intensifying challenges to build increasingly complex, mixed- measurement test systems under compressed timelines, while managing the explosive growth of collected data. Engineers can use FlexLogger to help simplify test
configurations and extract key insights with sensor-specific workflows to acquire and log synchronised, mixed measurements – no programming required. They can quickly integrate analogue sensors, digital pulse frequencies, CAN signals and calculated channels that are all logged to the universal Technical Data Management Streaming (TDMS) file format, so data can be correlated and analysed to accurately characterise an entire system. These capabilities also address similar challenges faced by test departments in other industries including heavy equipment, aerospace, appliances and academic research.
MAGNETIC FLOW METER TRANSMITTER
PANEL MOUNTED FIELD INSTRUMENTS
Emerson has introduced the Rosemount 8712EM Wall Mount Magnetic Flow Meter Transmitter with additional protocols, powerful diagnostic capabilities and usability features to help users in the water and wastewater, metals and mining, and other industries gain quick insight into their processes. The meter’s local operator interface
was designed using human centered design concepts, making it faster for technicians to navigate in the field. The Rosemount 8712EM’s diagnostic
suite includes high process noise detection and ground fault detection. The electrode coating diagnostic offers two set points to alert when coating is present and when it is affecting flow measurement, enabling preventative maintenance. Smart Meter Verification continuously monitors the health and performance of the meter for ultimate measurement confidence. Universal transmitter capability
allows the 8712EM to operate with any existing magnetic flow meter sensor and allows backwards compatibility with all Rosemount magnetic sensors.
Emerson For example, heavy equipment manufacturers like CNH
Industrial design and produce variations of powertrain systems for different vehicles like agricultural machines, construction equipment, trucks and buses. Each system has unique specifications for functionality and performance, which means every test has different requirements to integrate new sensors and industrial protocols. “Characterising a combine harvester drivetrain requires a mix of
different measurements including pressure, temperature, current, CAN and shaft speed,” said Andy Tarman, lab test engineer at CNH Industrial. “FlexLogger makes it easier to troubleshoot and verify that the raw data from different sensors are correct before I start my test. This helps shorten test development by saving time typically wasted on redoing configurations.” These configuration-based workflows are the cornerstone that now empower technicians to streamline test development, integrate new measurements and manage data using NI’s flexible software platform and modular hardware. For example, leveraging NI’s data management expertise, FlexLogger automatically logs descriptive metadata about the test configuration including sensor and hardware acquisition settings for easier traceability. Test departments can improve access to data and effectively communicate results to the organisation using DIAdem data management software to find, analyse and report on FlexLogger data.

ni.com DIGITAL DISPLAY TRANSMISSION WITH SDL4
B&R recently introduced the fourth generation of its display transmission technology, Smart Display Link (SDL). SDL4 is based on HDBaseT 2.0 and can span up to 100m between the industrial PC and display device. This makes it easy to equip expansive machines and systems with multiple remote HMI panels. SDL4 makes it possible to transmit display content and other data over much greater distances. It is possible to span up to 100m between PC and display. An additional highlight of SDL4 is its use of standard Ethernet cables, which drastically reduces cable costs over longer distances. The thin cable and slim RJ45 connector are a perfect fit in tight situations such as feed-through openings and swing arm systems. An SDL4 converter allows up to three panels to be connected to one
Automation PC. A fourth Automation Panel displaying different content can also be operated via an additional SDL4 interface. This is B&R’s response to the needs of modern manufacturing systems, which increasingly feature multiple locally- mounted operator panels. The modular design of B&R’s PC and panel systems allows any Automation Panel to be equipped with an SDL4 interface. SDL4 transmission technology is independent of software and operating systems and integrates all communication channels – including USB, touch screen and function keys – in one single cable. SDL4 transmits all signals uncompressed and in high resolution for optimum image quality.

www.br-automation.com www.emerson.com The BA494G panel mounting kit is
manufactured from carbon loaded GRP with silicone gaskets. The kit has been ingress tested by a UKAS accredited test laboratory which confirmed that it maintains the ‘G’ instrument’s IP66 protection and does not degrade the ingress protection of the panel enclosure in which it is mounted. The kit has IECEx and ATEX certification so that the intrinsic safety certification of a ‘G’ instrument that it is supporting is not invalidated.
BEKA

BEKA associates’ ‘G’ field mounting instruments in GRP enclosures can now be panel mounted following the introduction of the BA494G panel mounting kit. The kit allows the extensive range of BEKA loop powered indicators, rate totalisers, counters, timers and tachometers to be safely mounted in a panel enclosure. The IP66 ingress protection of the ‘G’ instrument and the ingress protection provided by the panel enclosure in which it is mounted are preserved. The kit is ideal for mounting field instruments onto an open panel where the instrument’s IP66 ingress protection is required.
