Sturdy infrared thermometer for steelworks
E
ndurance series pyrometers from temperature measurement expert Fluke Process Instruments provide
high reliability and usability in demanding primary and secondary metals production applications. The rugged infrared thermometers take non-contact measurements and are used to control process stability, product quality, and fuel efficiency. Featuring a 1 µm, 1.6 µm, or 2.4 µm spectral response, the sensors achieve significantly higher accuracies than longer-wavelength sensors. The Endurance series covers measured temperatures from 50 °C to 3,200 °C with just a few models. Therefore, it takes fewer units to monitor entire processes. Models with one-color and two- color (ratio pyrometer) operating modes are available, the latter for measured temperatures as low as 250 °C. Ratio pyrometers ensure correct readings even in dust-saturated or steamed-up surroundings. The series is designed for comfortable operation. A
backlit rear-panel with tactile feedback allows for easy, intuitive on-site configuration and read-out. Furthermore, the sensors can be remotely operated. Profinet, RS-485, and Industrial Ethernet interfaces are available.

a complete system. Depending on their selection, the guide then adapts accordingly to offer different options. By inputting additional process data such as installation and environment information, the number of products is continuously refined. Once all necessary information has been provided, a suggested product list is displayed. After picking the right instrument, users can make further configuration changes, including explosion protection, insertion lengths, type of connection heads and the addition of any accessories. As these changes are made, a diagram of the design is automatically built up, showing how the final unit will
look. When the user has completed the selection process, their project can be saved for them to return to in the future
or to export as a datasheet in PDF, Excel or XML formats for downloading or sharing. “Choosing the right temperature sensor or transmitter from the range of devices available can often be a daunting and time-consuming task,” says Steve Gorvett, ABB’s DP Flow and Temperature Product Manager. “Our tool overcomes this. By filling in key parameters relating to the application, users can dramatically streamline the process of selecting the right measuring instrument for the right application.”
