up for EuroSkills Herning 2025 After months of intense training, Johnny Gough has been selected to represent Team UK at Euroskills Herning 2025 in the Electrical Installation category
J
ohnny demonstrated exceptional commitment and technical ability, working hard to
prepare both for the competition programme and high-pressure conditions of EuroSkills, the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in Europe. Since the WorldSkills UK squad was
announced in March 2025, The Electrical Installation squad has carried out its training for the WorldSkills 2026 Shanghai cycle at NICIEC’s Chesterfield training centre, led by WorldSkills UK Training Manager Mitchel Smith. The training has involved practical and theoretical training and has been supported by experts from across the industry. Johnny Gough commented: “The training
programme to get to this point has been intense. I’ve competed at regional and UK competitions, but EuroSkills will be the biggest challenge I’ve had so far. I’m genuinely looking forward to it. I’ve put in the hours with the squad, focused on the builds, and pushed myself to meet competition timings. I still don’t know exactly what to expect but I’m keeping a calm head and trusting in the training. I’m looking forward to getting out there and showing what I can do.” Mitchel Smith, NICEIC Technical Training
Developer and WorldSkills UK Training Manager for Electrical Installation, commented: “Johnny
has been remarkably calm and methodical, and his focus through the training builds has shown real maturity. I’m proud of the work the squad has done so far and EuroSkills is a great opportunity to put that into practice. Competition conditions are always a real test, the pressure and the time constraints can make things much more difficult. It’s a steep learning curve but an invaluable experience at the same time, these experiences set young people up incredibly well for their
futures and give them experiences they can take with them for the rest of their lives.” NICEIC extends its congratulations to Johnny
for his selection as well of the rest of the Electrical Installation Squad for their hard work and dedication. We would like to wish them, and those representing the UK in other categories, the best of luck at EuroSkills Herning 2025.

Donated Solar PV and Battery System powers life-saving treatment
at frontline hospital in Ukraine A frontline hospital in northeastern Ukraine is now equipped with a reliable and resilient power supply, following the recent commissioning of a 36.5 kWp rooftop solar PV and battery storage system
energy access in war-affected areas, with support from UK companies Photon Energy and Segen Ltd. Now fully operational, this vital system will enable Slobozhanske Hospital in the Kharkiv region to continue providing life-saving medical care despite ongoing attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure. Located just 35 kilometers from the Russian

he project was delivered by RePower Ukraine, a charitable foundation dedicated to restoring
generator during these periods, severely limiting its ability to perform scheduled procedures and significantly delaying urgent medical treatment. Inspired by the work of RePower Ukraine,
Photon Energy and Midsummer Energy successfully raised £15,000 to cover the cost of the mounting system, cabling and installation at Slobozhanske Hospital. Photon Energy also donated 84 solar panels to the project. Repower Ukraine continues to seek support
from technical experts, funding partners and training organisations. For more information or to get involved, visit the website.
