Aspirational for young electricians
Combined with a dedication to informing and training future electricians, we believe that by equipping them with the best tools available we are actively investing in the next generation, empowering them to apply and hone their skills in a safe and efficient manner. We engage in extensive ‘voice of the customer’ feedback before we create any of our products. In particular, usability for younger electricians is one of the things we ruminate on to ensure we get it absolutely right. This can be as simple as adding a Bluetooth connection or as large as automating reports, to save time and effort. One device we believe is aspirational for younger electricians is the new Fluke 1670 Multifunction Installation Tester. This tool incorporates an intuitive interface and automation features such as a programmable AutoTest function, which essentially means you can program the tool to auto test with a pass or fail feature making repetitive manual tasks simpler,

with no opportunity to miss record a measurement. With a focus on making tests faster, this also frees up technicians to focus on critical problem solving tasks, which is where their knowledge really comes into play.
One thing that stood out to us in empowering the younger generation, is the expectation of seamless technology and connection. We know that the future of work is a digital one, so every tool created should embrace connection and data. Bluetooth connectivity and software like Fluke Connect make seamless reporting possible by generating test reports automatically and transferring data to ensure electricians have what they need in the format required, eliminating double data entry. This is not only great for day-to-day operations, it helps to tell the story to leaders and managers with data proof to go with it. By integrating multiple testing capabilities into one single device (eliminating the need to learn how to operate numerous different units), businesses can future proof their workforce minimising room for error, maximising efficiency
and bridging the knowledge gap with baked in functionality for those frontline workers. Immediate validation of results using touchscreens reduces human error, helping electricians focus more on safety and efficiency, key pillars of modern installation work.
These benefits apply equally to electricians who
carry out day-to-day work or are involved in larger, more complex electrical projects. The result of this approach is a safer, more reliable electrical system - and that has to be the ultimate goal. Invest in young engineers, identify and develop their talent, then give them the best available tools to put those skills to use, all the while supporting them and enabling them to keep up-to-date with the very latest regulations and standards.
The trend I mentioned at the top of this piece certainly exists in industry today, but it does not have to prevail. We all understand that young people are our future, so equip them with the best tools and training on the planet and watch them fly.
