AEI CABLES CLINCHES CONTRACT FOR WARSHIPS
A H
ello and welcome to the March issue of Electrical Enginerring
magazine. Yes indeed, we have at long last reached the months of Spring. Gone are the days of needing warm winter coats and a mug of hot coffee to keep us going. Soon it will be lighter and brighter, with lambs bleating and daffodils sprouting up before you even know it. Until then, we’ve got features fit
to bursting for your perusal and delight, including the latest from the Rail Industry, an examination of enclosures and a sneak peek into what’s new in Training. As ever, if you’d like to shout about a product, process or person in the industry, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

EI Cables has been chosen as one of three companies to supply cables for three of Britain’s
new Type 26 warships for the Royal Navy. Working with prime contractor BAE Systems, AEI
Cables will supply cable and wiring for the power, lighting and data communications circuits to the vessels, with 400km of cable being supplied for the first order.
ENCLOSURE GASKET SEALING S
ealing of enclosures or cabinet doors is made simple with the range of clip-fit, push-fit and
self-adhesive sections from FDB Panel Fittings. These specialist profiles in EPDM, NBR, neoprene and PVC offer a quickly installed solution to maintaining good IP protection for panel builders, equipment manufacturers and vehicle constructors. Clip-on hollow section gaskets enable inexpensive and effective protection from dust and water to be achieved with the simple expedient of pushing the section onto the frame profile or inner door edge. Construction is of EPDM or NBR (oil resistant) bonded onto a spring steel spine. Sizes of FDB sealing strips range from 8mm to
13mm width sections and are available tested to UL standards fluorescent tubes.

The Type 26 combat ships will replace the Type
23 frigates as a versatile multi-mission warship designed to support anti-submarine warfare, air defence, humanitarian assistance and general operations anywhere in the world. First installation of the state-of-the-art range of naval power, instrumentation and communications wires and cables is scheduled, with the first warship expected to be in service in the mid-2020s.

CALIBRATOR HELPS TECHNICIANS COMPLY WITH NEW REGULATORY STANDARDS F
luke Calibration have introduced the 5322A Electrical Tester
Calibrator, a multi-device calibrator built to facilitate compliance with exacting international standards such as the UK’s BS7671 17th Edition and IEC/EN Standards. The 5322A combines many
functions into a single instrument, replacing discrete resistors, decade boxes, and other custom solutions commonly used to calibrate electrical testers. This single-box solution speeds and simplifies calibration because users only need to learn, operate, and maintain one calibrator rather than multiple instruments. While it is difficult to automate multiple instruments, the 5322A can be automated with Fluke Calibration MET/CAL
calibration management software in 5320A emulation mode - further increasing speed and throughput. The 5322A is capable of handling a wide
spectrum of electrical safety tester workloads including older hand-cranked insulation testers to modern insulation resistance testers, hipot testers, RCD testers, earth group resistances testers, loop/line impedance testers, ground bond testers, portable appliance testers (PATs), and multi- function installation electrical safety analysers. A large, full-color display enables
the user to easily read the primary sourced or measured values. The design features an active terminal display, outward jog wheel, numeric keyboard, on-screen graphical help guide, and spec readout.
