LEARN ABOUT PAT TESTING WITH FREE WORKSHOPS
E
lectrical testing expert Seaward is hitting the road again with a brand new series of
workshops aimed at equipping people with the knowledge they need to carry out effective PAT testing. Portable appliance tests (PAT) are quick and simple checks performed on electrical appliances. The free workshops are designed to answer
common questions about the tests – with a focus on detecting dangerous counterfeit and substandard goods. Employers are legally required to ensure any electrical equipment they provide to staff is maintained in a safe condition. The sessions will also cover key topics such as legislation, test types and testing laptops, chargers and low voltage equipment. Attendees will get the opportunity to ask their own questions – as well as the chance to win a PrimeTest 100 PAT tester at every workshop. Richard Slade, UK field sales manager at
Seaward, says: “We take our responsibility as an industry educator incredibly seriously. As well as picking up some important tips about PAT testing, we’re also offering attendees one-to- one technical support.” Delivered by experts from Seaward, the workshops will visit: Maidstone (Mar 15); Cambridge (Mar 22); Stockton (Mar 22); Heathrow (Mar 29); Manchester (Mar 29); Birmingham (Apr 26); Leeds (Apr 26); Cardiff (May 3); Belfast (May 3); Portsmouth (May 10); Stoke (May 10); Potters Bar (May 17); Loughborough (May 17) and Glasgow (May 24).

World’s first test solution for Bluetooth 5.1 B
luetooth SIG ratified its core specification version 5.1 in late
January. Rohde & Schwarz is now launching the first test solution as a software upgrade for the R&S CMW test platform. The test solution for Bluetooth 5.1 can be used to verify the performance of the location services that have been significantly improved with the new Bluetooth specification. To enable device manufacturers to test
their products in line with Bluetooth 5.1, Rohde & Schwarz has expanded its BLE test solution to include 23 new test cases in direct test mode (DTM) defined in the new RF-PHY.TS.5.1.0 test specification. With these tests, manufacturers can demonstrate that their products are RF interoperable with other devices and that direction finding meets the requirements of the BT 5.1 specification. The R&S CMW test platform delivers the full range of Bluetooth RF tests, including Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth 5.1. In addition to DTM and signalling tests, it supports a wide scope of audio tests on Bluetooth basic rate/enhanced data rate (BR/EDR) links.
The R&S CMW test platform is especially suitable for tests in the development phase, for pre-conformance tests, for qualified audio tests, and for use in Bluetooth OTA test systems. The R&S CMW test platform employs a parametric test concept that enables users to create application-specific test sequences. The test platform
bandwidth has been extended to 160 MHz. This also allows WLAN RF signalling tests in line with the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards, including IEEE 802.11ax. RF tests compliant with IEEE 802.15.4 for Zigbee and Thread components are also supported.
