Surge suppression modules for railway applications I
deal Power have launched a new range of Surge Suppression Modules (SSMs) from P-Duke, a Taiwanese manufacturer. The SSM series products provide surge protection to protect DC/DC converter modules in railway applications. The SSMs can clamp input surge voltages to a safe level to
protect DC/DC converters, and enable them to keep working. They are rated to withstand a 385VDC input surge for 20ms, in compliance with the railway industry’s standard RIA12 for surge susceptibility. Operating input voltage can range from 43VDC to 160VDC, enabling the SSMs to be used with the 110V battery system commonly used in railways. Jon Vallis, sales and marketing manager at Ideal Power, says, “Railway applications have specific demands for surge protection, and these new modules meet the appropriate industry standards – ensuring reliable operation in harsh conditions.”

dividing or combining conduit systems in-line, offering a flexible cable protection solution for wiring systems while maintaining system integrity. Flexicon’s new range of easy- fit abrasion rings are suitable for applications where abrasion or mechanical wear of non- metallic conduit could be a potential hazard, abrasion rings offer a further level of protection where conduit may come into contact with other objects or surfaces through movement or vibration. The abrasion ring’s two-piece design solution ensures it can be applied
retrospectively anywhere along the conduit, offering a cost-effective option that prevents further damage and extends conduit lifespan. The product is manufactured in the UK from nylon PA66 to ensure it is halogen,
sulphur and phosphorous-free, and is self-extinguishing with extra low smoke emission and toxicity in the event of a fire. Among the Stäubli products serving the rail industry is the CT-HE range of modular CombiTac connectors. Designed for connecting battery packs used on rolling stock and other rail applications, they can be configured with or without signal contacts. A typical configuration has two 12 mm diameter power contacts and twelve 1.6 mm signal contacts for monitoring battery parameters such as temperature. Various sizes of power contacts can accept a wide range of cable cross- sections, and a make first / break last pilot contact can also be included. The panel mount connectors are ideal for use with rackable, slide-in battery packs where blind
connection is necessary. This is helped by alignment tolerances of 3° and +/- 1 mm through CombiTac guiding end pieces.

The first TRACe-RM404-TR variant features the Intel
Atom x5-E3940 quad-core 1.6 GHz high performance per watt processor, with 2GB DDR3L memory up to 1866MHz (optional up to 8GB DDR3L) and 64 GB Industrial MLC SSD memory. The Kontron TRACe-RM404-TR offers multiple communication ports, making it ideal for train control applications. It features three independent Gigabit Ethernet network ports (on M12 connectors), 2x RS232/422/485 isolated ports with galvanic isolation, 8 isolated digital inputs and 8 isolated digital outputs for operation plus 2x USB, 1x GbE RJ45, 1x RS232, and display port interfaces for maintenance purposes.
