Installed by electrical contractors, ENGIE INEO UK, the nylon (PA6) corrugated flexible conduit offered an ideal solution for protecting the building’s entire electrical cabling. The FPAS conduit system offers


superior fatigue life, with high impact strength and crush resistance. Of particular benefit to this project, which required


significant lengths of cabling to be installed in the cavity walls, was the flexible nature of the conduit as opposed to a rigid system. This enabled the electricians to navigate easily around any obstructions in the wall and conduit ends could also be left exposed for the contractor to complete the works and then wired and fixed afterwards. The FPAS system is a low fire


hazard solution, with excellent fire resistance to UL94 V2 and can operate across a wide temperature range, up to 120°C. It also releases no toxic fumes in the event of a fire and is halogen free with low smoke properties. flexicon.uk.com


UNITRUNK INVESTS IN CAPACITY ENHANCING AUTOMATION C

and agility of its manufacturing capabilities with the installation of a new state of the art automated manufacturing system. Unitrunk’s production facility in Lisburn, Northern


Ireland, is home to the company’s manufacturing capabilities for its Rapid Installation Systems (RIS) UniKlip cable tray and EasyConnect cable basket, along with production of Unitrunk trunking, channel and accessories. The company has embraced automation and lean manufacturing practices for a number of years and its latest investment will increase capacity at the site significantly enabling even more rapid response to orders, allowing custom requirements to be met even on short lead times. The operations team at Unitrunk carried out a


thorough review process and scoured the production automation sector before opting for an AMADA system that integrates all processes from management of materials through to completion of the finished item. The system enables continuous operation at the plant, even during ‘lights out’ off shift hours and also ensures changeovers between different processes, materials and sizes are swift and automatic, taking just two or three minutes with no additional labour requirements. Unitrunk is now in the process of programming the new system, which is scalable to meet the needs of the business. The investment is
