Tankers Tanker docking for
Falmouth yard Te UK’s A&P Falmouth shipyard has completed the drydocking of ABC Maritime’s double hull oil and chemical tanker, Troy. Beating off competition from several other European shipyards, A&P Falmouth carried out a 17 day refit package during the vessel’s stay at the yard over the summer. Te scope of work included a class intermediate survey,
the renewal of the main deck cargo heating pipework, extensive deck cargo washing and line replacement, the overhaul of the main engine, including the turbocharger, fuel gear and associated pumps, a bow thruster seal change and overhaul, and a number of small steel repairs. Te project called upon a wide range of the Falmouth yard’s services, including use of the on-site workshop for the overhaul of the bow thruster.

for Langh Finnish scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech has signed its largest deal so far, to retrofit a total of 12 vessels owned by the Danish shipping company, Norden. Tis will include installing open loop scrubber systems on a total of four tankers and eight bulk carriers within the group’s fleet. Te tankers have two boilers and a total of six exhaust
gas sources will be connected to the scrubber. Automa- tion will enable the scrubber plant to be operated in two exhaust gas cleaning modes, corresponding to either 0.1 or 0.5% sulphur in the fuel. Te scrubbers will be of the in-line type and will replace silenc- ers. Langh Tech points out that dry running of the scrubbers is possible, eliminating the need to bypass the main engine. “There has been a huge increase in demand for
scrubber systems lately and in addition to the Norden order we have dozens of new scrubber systems in the pipeline,” says Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, commercial director of Langh Tech. “At the same time, we are increas- ing our capacity which allows us to keep offering systems with delivery before 2020.”

Te company says it has made the bulk purchase of scrubbers to safeguard its shipowner customers against the risk of signifi- cant price rises or production bottlenecks as demand increases. In a further initiative, Newport has also signed cooperation agreements with experienced engineering services providers Harris-Pye and Goltens. Newport Shipping chief executive officer, Erol
