Chris-Marine adds to liner maintenance capabilities
A new condition monitoring product has been introduced to complement a range of solutions designed to improve liner monitoring and repair
C
hris-Marine has expanded the range of products it offers to assist with marine engine maintenance
and repair activity. Its existing Liner Diameter Measuring (LDM) and Coating Thickness Measurement (CTM) tools are now complemented by the new Liner Condition Camera (LCC) introduced earlier this year. Sales director, Alexander Malt, explains
the role of the LCC: “While the LDM measures cylinder wear, the LCC detects visual cylinder condition issues such as cold corrosion and micro-seizures in the liner surface. The three tools together provide the full range of cylinder condition monitoring capabilities that will be needed, for instance, when introducing continuous low-sulphur fuel oil operation aſter 2020.” Chris-Marine has
also enhanced
the honing process for medium-speed cylinder liners, fine-tuning it to achieve improved productivity, quality
documentation. Malt says: “A 50% time saving can be achieved for most types of cylinder liners. Tis is made possible through new stone types and dressing procedures and a hand-held honing guide which assists the operator with tips during each honing stage.” Te company’s honing guide collects
liner dimensions and surface roughness data so that the formal test record is finished at the same time as the liner has been honed,

waiting for new equipment delivery, during the maintenance of existing equipment or when a temporary capacity increase is needed,” suggests Malt. Chris-Marine has rental hubs in Sweden and Singapore at present. Significant investments in machines have been made at both locations in order to increase capacity for renting out equipment.
Chris-Marine engineers report successful testing of the recently released LDM technology
In a notable business win, the company
has recently signed a performance agreement with the Stena Group. The company will in future be the main supplier of maintenance and monitoring equipment for engines on Stena Group’s existing fleet and newbuildings. For more than five decades now,
Chris-Marine has designed engine maintenance solutions for 2-stroke and 4-stroke diesel and gas engines. As well as sales offices in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Singapore, China, India, Japan, Ecuador and Brazil, the company operates workshops in Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Singapore and Shanghai. The
company further thereby saving
administration time and minimising the risk of human error. Chris-Marine’s most popular honing machine, called HONA, has recently been equipped with automatic stone pressure control and safety stop functions to further benefit productivity and safety. Most of the equipment supplied, and
used, by Chris-Marine in marine engine maintenance work can also now be rented as an alternative to outright purchase. “Renting is an option to consider while

develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of specialist equipment. Tis includes systems for monitoring, cleaning, grinding and machining and fuel system maintenance, as well as mobile workshop solutions. Its customers are mainly engine
builders, ship owners, shipyards and workshops. “Our mission,” Malt adds, “is to provide them with state-of-the- art engine care solutions to optimise the running of their engines in order to save time and money with minimum environmental impact.” SR
