ISSUE 114 AUTUMN 2024 ILAS 2025

PLENARY SPEAKERS

Gediminas Račiukaitis, Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology, Lithuania Ultrashort pulse laser-induced processes for electronics and advanced chip integration

Gediminas is head of the Department of Laser Technologies at the Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology (www.ftmc.lt) and President of the Lithuanian Laser Association (www.ltoptics.org). Research activities include the development of new laser sources, applications of ultra-short pulse lasers in material microprocessing and implementation of laser technologies in the industry. He is a co-author of >30 scientific papers, >30 patents, and plenty of presentations at international conferences.

Christian Hagenlocher, University of Stuttgart, Germany Dynamic beam shaping and its new potentials in laser welding

Christian Hagenlocher possesses nearly a decade of experience in unconventional advanced manufacturing methods with an applied direction. He is heading the department for process fundamentals in laser material processing at the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) at the University of Stuttgart (Germany) since 2023. After completing his doctorate in the field of laser beam welding in 2020 he worked as a research fellow at the Centre for Additive Manufacturing at RMIT in Melbourne until 2022. His focus includes innovations in almost all kind of laser material processing with cw and ultrafast laser sources.

Neil Main, Micrometric, UK Subcontract Laser Processing – Past, Present and Future

Neil Main co-founded the successful laser subcontacting business Micrometric in 1981 and became Managing Director in 2004. Neil is now Chair and consultant at Micrometric, having taken semi-retirement in 2024. His career began in chemistry before studying physics at Brunel University, moving on to a semionductor company before co-founding Micrometric. Neil has an extensive knowledge of the laser industry, having had over 40 years experience working with a vast array laser systems and different materials. Neil and Micrometric have a long history with AILU and he was AILU's President from 2013-2015.
