BREAKING BARRIERS, INSPIRING DREAMS: A JOURNEY FROM ASSAM TO THE UK PRIYANKA GHOSH, MTC

I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the television series “When Dreams Get Wings (Xopunor Deuka)”, Episode 1 of Season 2, telecasted on a leading Indian television channel ‘Pratidin Time’ (Assam, India) in November 2024.

In the programme I shared my journey- from a remote corner of Assam, India to pursuing my MSc and PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University, UK, and currently working as an Advanced Research Engineer at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, Coventry, UK.

As the first in the family to study engineering, and the first to go abroad for higher education, I hope my story serves as a reminder that breaking societal barriers is possible. For me, education was not just an academic pursuit but a gateway to redefining possibilities. Growing up in a small town, I faced many expectations and limitations placed on me, simply because of my gender and background. However, I learned that no dream is too big to chase when you have the determination to break free from societal constraints.

This television series – a total of 13 episodes – carefully curates real stories emphasising the importance of defying norms, challenging stereotypes, and overcoming the doubts that often hold us back. By sharing my experiences in this series, I aim to inspire other young minds to push past their limitations and pursue their passions with confidence and resilience, to dream big, think beyond their circumstances, knowing that with perseverance and education, they can rewrite their own futures. My journey is not just a personal achievement but a call to action for society to support and nurture the aspirations of the next generation.

I am grateful to Pratidin Time for this opportunity. It is an honour to share my story, and I hope it inspires the next generation to believe in their limitless potential.
