ALUMNI CORNER Dear Alumni and Friends of AUWCL:
My mom started law school when I was in high school. She had wanted to attend law school after college, but her father (who was a congressman) told her that “girls don’t go to law school” and that she should try being a flight attendant. After a quick go in the skies, my mom pursued paralegal work while she raised me and my two sisters before finally enrolling in law school in her early 40s. After graduation, she worked at Drinker Biddle & Reath (now Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath) for 25 years, most of which as a partner, before retiring a couple of years ago.
I share this story to acknowledge that I know that, for so many of you, getting to and graduating from AUWCL was a big deal and probably one of your life’s greatest accomplishments. Especially if attending AUWCL got you to the role you are in today.
Getting to and graduating from AUWCL also continues to be a challenge for many of our students, for a variety of reasons. When AUWCL alumni like you make donations to help ensure our students graduate from AUWCL and with a job, you not only change the outcome for a fellow AUWCL alum, but you also help increase our rankings, which are now very much tied to job placement after graduation. This is how giving back to your alma mater makes a meaningful difference.
Kelly McCarthy
The reason I recently accepted this role at AUWCL is because l truly believe that lawyers are the most efficient change agents we have in this world. Whenever something has happened in our country that I don’t like, I donate to legal organizations that use the law to change big problems. As a fundraiser, I am proud to raise money to support our future AUWCL lawyers and changemakers. And I will always feel honored and humbled to work with those of you who want to give back.
