CLINICAL OPERATIONS & OUTSOURCING
Pros and cons of bridge CRAs Cons: • Use of bridge CRAs results in a longer onboarding process due to the thorough training period.
• Initially, lower capacity (fewer site counts) was required to allow for increased confidence when performing tasks and ensure success in the monitoring role.
• During the outset, bridge CRAs required more oversight of site visits, trip report review, and additional meetings.
Pros: • Bridge CRAs can be contracted at a lower monthly rate due to the introductory level.
• The bridge CRAs were extremely eager, motivated, and thankful for the opportunity; therefore, they are strong workers. Clinical Trial Managers noted that it is hard to distinguish the bridge CRAs from more seasoned monitors, and sites have provided positive feedback.
• The bridge CRAs learn your way rather than sticking to the status quo. Seasoned CRAs often say, “This isn’t how I did it before.”
• The program Endo partners with has a history of success with the CRA bridge program; therefore, adaptation is smooth and successful.
Pros and cons of Junior CTAs Cons: • Similar to the above, a longer onboarding process was required to ensure success.
• The onboarding process required more time for mentoring by senior staff. Consequently, the senior staff had less time to complete other tasks.
• There is always risk in taking a chance on someone new.
• Junior roles may benefit from face-to-face conversations making a 100% virtual environment challenging. A hybrid environment may be more suitable.
Pros: • The Junior CTAs were eager to learn and were more collaborative. They had no preconceived notions of the status quo.
• Mentorship opportunities for senior staff can aid retention by providing professional growth.
• Endo recognized lower costs due to entry level status.
• Endo was able to contribute to industry growth by giving people their first opportunity. We all started somewhere!
These stories remind us that sometimes the best hires come from unexpected places. It is essential to look beyond the resume and consider qualities like work ethic, adaptability, and passion. After all, skills can be taught, but the right attitude and commitment are priceless! We hope our experience at Endo highlights the importance providing opportunity and welcoming fresh faces into this wonderful, growing industry!
