lot before. I was a big fan of it all. My most legendary DJ of all time is still Carl Cox. His unique performance and thick Tech House sound is just incomparable”
The artist goes on to tell us that once, he remixed Miro’s track “Shining,” which his brother had on vinyl when he was a young boy. He loved the old Hardcore music from around 2000, like DJ Promo, Angerfist, and Luna.
Reinier explains that he was drawn to the specific Minus sound that he discovered at the event with Richie Hawtin, because the genre was still in its
early stages. opportunity to pioneer The with
in the genre was inspirational to Reinier.
“What I found so
special about that Minus sound, that Minimal genre, was that it sounded like the genre was not yet fully developed. I thought to myself, there is so much room to explore and make this genre your own. What I love about Techno and Minimal, and Techno in general, is that it’s a new music stream. This genre is
still evolving and developing at a superfast pace. There’s still so much
potential to bring
something new to the genre, and that’s what I found so fascinating.”
When asked to share a memory from the early rave days that still stands out to him, Reinier immediately recalls Speedy J.
“Speedy J used to play
these long sets at the ‘010’ and the MaasSilo Rotterdam. Around 2011, he released the track Armstrong, and I remember hearing the rhythm of that track for
10 hours straight
at one of his sets the year before. By
the end
of the party, I was completely
hypnotized and
heard that track in my head for hours. Years later, during the Corona pandemic, I visited his studio and told him that story. He asked if I wanted to have the track and offered me the entire project to play around with. It’s now my favorite track, and he just gave it to me, saying, “do whatever you want with it”.
It’s so amazing for
me to have a peek into how someone creates something. It’s epic.”
