“When you enter the studio and open your DAW, what’s the first thing you do?” we ask. “Well, it depends on the type of session

I’m working on, so it’s a bit difficult to say. But usually, when I have an idea for a new track, I sit down and write it out first. I don’t even turn on the sound yet. I have a melody in my head, and I write everything down before adding any sounds in the DAW. Otherwise, I get easily distracted and end up with something completely different. It’s better

for me to

write everything down first, input the sounds, and then create the beat. After that, I start the whole production process, and I have everything in place. But this approach only works if you already have a solid idea in your head.”

Concluding that Reinier is a “musical mastermind” who composes entire tracks in his head, he humbly responds, “Just a lot of practice.” He goes on to explain how he improvises on stage without headphones and must have everything already composed in his head.

“When I’m on stage and I want to

improvise, I don’t use headphones, so I can’t preview anything. I’m standing there behind my

synthesizers, I press a note, and it

immediately plays through the sound system. You have to “write” it all in your head at that moment.

That’s what makes live

performance so intense. You have to be a 100% certain of your moves, because you don’t have the space to test anything out on the spot.”

LABEL Reinier recently established a state-of-

the-art studio center in Amsterdam called Filth on Acid Studios. The hub features five expertly designed studios that cater to every need of DJs and producers. We sat down with Reinier to discuss his brainchild and the creative happenings within its four walls. “We’ve had the entire building for a

year now, and my studio has been operational since last June. We have five spaces in total, and I plan to rent out four of them. My studio is complete, and the others are nearly done. It was

a lot of work to build everything from scratch, and I’m also in the process of creating my own club in the garage. We’ll be hanging some big speakers there, so we can stream and record sets.”

Intrigued about what kind of sound we can expect from Filth on Acid this year, we asked Reinier about his thoughts on the upcoming release season. “I believe this will be the best year for our

releases. We receive music submissions from everyone in the Techno scene, including some of my idols sending in demos for EPs, which is amazing. We’re in a position to choose who we work with, which can be difficult since we receive so much fantastic music. I tell all the artists not to worry about the genre and just send me something unique that blows everyone away on the dance floor. We’ve received a fresh influx of inspiring new music, which is super exciting.”

Additionally, we would love to know which will be the first upcoming releases on Filth on Acid and ask Reinier if he can inform us about some interesting collabs we can expect. “In May we will release a special

compilation, for which we’ve gathered tracks from some of the biggest names in the Techno scene right now, which include Alan Fitzpatrick, Kiki Solvej, VE/RA, BK, Township Rebellion & Belocca, and many more. I will be releasing my own remix of ‘Music Is The Answer’ by Joe Goddard, and there will also be an incredible EP by ‘Mha Iri’ coming out. I’m really looking forward to releasing the Filth on Acid compilation,

the new single, and the EP in

the coming few months. I think they truly capture the label’s sound which taps into more underground sounds, as well as some new and exciting crossovers. As we already spoke about, I recently spent some time in the studio with GORDO, but also Vini Vici, and Sjaak. I can’t say anything about when the tracks are set to release yet, but you can definitely expect some bangers to come from this very soon!”
