RITMO BOOKINGS
Diego, Luke, could you share with us your beginnings as agents and why did you to team up?:
Diego: I started working as an agent when I was still studying in the United States around 8 years ago, and even though it took around 18 months to get the first proper bookings, I knew from the beginning that this was my passion and my job for the rest of my life. Once I´ve graduated in 2016, I started working full time for Cumac Bookings and in the beginning of 2022, I started my own agency, Oasis Bookings. Luke and I have been working together for a few years and we complement each other really well, so it is a pleasure to build this new agency for South America together.
Luke: My first agent work was a small start up agency that I set up in 2012 to book shows for my friends who ran their own label at the time and the other artists on their label roster. I ran that for a year before a larger agency took us over. After
that, I
continued working privately for another year until I was offered a role with NGE Booking in London with whom I have worked with since. Diego and I were in contact from the early days of him working with Cumac and have built a great working relationship as well as friendship... so when the opportunity to work together in
S.America arose it seemed like an obvious choice.
What motivated you to focus specifically on the South American market?
- Diego: We believe the South American scene is missing an agency that is only focused on that territory and can provide a quality roster and service to all the promoters in the territory. Luke is based in Brazil and Diego is moving for three months here as well, so we will be on site. We also have a great team of 8 people working already in the agency, 5 agents, 2 for logistics and one accountant.
- Luke: There was definitely a gap in the market as a lot of great artists weren’t being represented in that territory and we were well placed to offer something to them to make a difference. Diego is a native Spanish speaker and I speak Portuguese and some Spanish so that, alongside our strong combined network of contacts and a great back office team to support, we felt like it was the right move for us.
Can you tell us a little bit more about your roster and the type of music that they play?:
- Diego: We are starting with a great roster of 30 artists that goes from house to techno and all its varieties, you can see our full roster on the other page.
What do you like the most about South America, and what is the difference between the parties in this territory and the rest of the world?:
- Diego: The South American crowd is the best one by far, the way they live and experience the music is quite different from what we are used to see in Europe or North America. The people in South America are very passionate and all the artists love to play there, because the feedback from the crowd is incredible.
Luke, Diego, can you outline your agency’s vision and long-term goals in cultivating and promoting international DJs within South America?
As we’ve already mentioned...we feel like there is room for a lot of growth in South America for the music and artists that we represent. The scene in most countries there is constantly progressing. The crowds are receptive and eager to hear new music and the promoters and events are becoming some of the most renowned in the world. The atmosphere is also some of the best you’ll find anywhere. As well as bringing more exposure there to the artists that we represent from other parts of the world, our long term goal is also to assist in giving the same kind of exposure to some of the amazing talents that South America itself has to offer and helping to grow the scene in general.
