Dwelling on the slopes of Mount Etna, Mathame embodies the very
essence of transformation,
amalgamating a myriad of musical influences with the visceral energy of nature. As brothers, they have forged a harmonious path in the chaotic realm of electronic music, using technology not as a crutch but as a tool to transcend boundaries. Here, we delve deeper
into their
inspirations, and their futuristic vision for the world of music.
How has living in a forest on the slopes of Mount Etna influenced your musical
direction and inspiration?
Living on the slopes of Mount Etna is an experience that goes beyond words. Feeling the magma is something that can’t be described, only lived. Each track we compose aims to reflect the viscerality and sublime beauty of living on the edge between life and death in front of nature. This unique environment has become a silent collaborator in our work, infusing our compositions with a primal energy that can only be derived from such a powerful natural setting.
With so many
you’ve studied, can you pinpoint a few that have been particularly transformative for your
influences and musical sources sound?
Our influences have been multiple, but some of the most transformative include techno pioneers like Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin, as well as more experimental genres like ambient and classical music. We take inspiration from Stars of The Lid and Sigur Ros, as well as certain IDM from Warp Records. These influences have not only shaped our sound but also expanded our musical vocabulary, allowing us to traverse different genres and styles while maintaining our unique voice. Take the example of Skywalking: a real immaculate inspiration that goes so far in his lifespan,, one of the most copied technical tricks in the last few years, one of the most influential track of the last years, so much that a new genre comes out from it, but, but you know, but it still stand out to anyone listen to it with his clearly and pure vision. This is the magic behind music, and is a true miracle.
“Dance To Death” is another one of your acclaimed tracks.
What’s the story behind its title and composition?
“Dance To Death” is one of our most difficult and suffered compositions. It’s a melody
so imposing
that handling it becomes a challenge. When we find elements like this in the ocean of music, we realize they are a true gift from God. Looking back, I’m not sure we treated this imposing melody in the respectful manner it deserved. This track serves as a humbling experience, reminding us that each composition carries its own weight and significance, deserving of our
utmost respect
and care. The music industry is constantly
What are some trends or evolving. technologies you believe will shape the future of electronic music?
We believe that spatial audio, blockchain for copyright, and AI-driven music production tools are some of the trends and technologies that will shape the future. These advancements will redefine the listener’s experience, transforming
passive interactive journey.
How do you maintain a balance between producing new tracks, remixes, and live performances?
It’s all about time management and setting priorities. We have a structured schedule that allows us to focus on production at certain times and live performances at

others. The real challenge is capturing the elusive muse of inspiration, which doesn’t operate on any schedule but its own.
As brothers, how do you handle creative differences and ensure that your bond strengthens both your personal and professional lives?
unique sound, their
Being brothers gives us an innate understanding of each other, invaluable in resolving creative differences. We have a rule: the best idea wins, regardless of who proposes it. This rule serves as the cornerstone of our collaboration, ensuring that our creative output is always the best possible fusion of our individual talents and perspectives.
You’re presenting an Audio-Visual show, and we’ve recognized some references to Renaissance art. What is the mindset behind using these in your visual creations? Are you guys trying to mix both avant-garde art and classic arts?
Absolutely, yes. Again, we are trying to be the pioneer of a new era of entertainment that take his inspiration from the pure vibes of underground trance around ‘90s and 2000’s and the classical history of art. The idea is to create a fusion between the old and the new, incorporating elements of Renaissance art to bring a timeless quality to our shows. The technology and the emotion. The emo and the tech. Can we call it Emotech? ahah. This fusion serves as a bridge between epochs, connecting the wisdom of the past with the possibilities of the future, and offering audiences a multi-layered experience that is both familiar and novel. Sacred art, the biggest masters in the history, was here to bring trance-state to the minds and the bodies of the audience in the churches. We are here with the same mission, but instead of brushes and canvas, we will use a.i., ledwalls and sounds. Again, a Emotech approach, where technology is used to induce and inspire emotions.
Reflecting on your journey so far, how do you envision the future of electronic music?
As I mentioned earlier, today’s technology, especially artificial intelligence, is limiting human intervention to the idea. Our shows aim to be moments of ecstatic truth, even if just for a second, a minute, or an hour. We envision a future where electronic music serves as a gateway to higher states of consciousness, enabled by technological advancements but grounded in the timeless principles of art and beauty.
