This comprehensive project re­ searched these accidents un­ covering detailsofsomeofthe airmen who lost their lives, air­ men from Australia, New Zea­ land, the USA, Canada, Poland and Great Britain. Last letters home and photographs have surfaced giving an insight into the lives of those airmen who gave their lives in the service of their countries. Relatives of those who died have also been identified through social media and Service Organisations. Theday started withrefresh-


ments supplied by Puddleducks Cafe served at Dunsop Bridge Village Hall. Visitors were then taken by bus to Sykes Green for the blessing of the books of re­ membrance, the unveiling and blessing of the memorial boul- derandtheactofremembrance. The service opened with a


parade of standards and young people led by the piper Michael Lonsdale. It was led by the Venerable


Michael Everitt, Archdeacon of Lancaster, supported by Monsignor John Corcoran and Father John Chaloner from St Hubert’s RC Church in Dunsop Bridge. The service was attended by

cluded the service by saying that in the 30 years he has lived in Lancashire this has been the most special day and thanked Mel Diack MBE for his coura­ geous leadership of the Clit­ heroe Youth Forum in this remembrance project.
