Voters in Littlemoor and Billington are advised of new polling stations for the Parliamentary, borough and parish elections on Thursday May 7th. Voters in the Littlemoor

ward of Clitheroe will vote in the R.OSLA block at Ribbles- dale High School, instead of the Garden Room at St James’s Church, while voters in Bill ington will vote at a mobile unit at Hodgefield, instead of Langho Community Hall. Voters throughout Ribble

Valley have recently received poll cards giving the location of their designated polling station. Stations will be open

from 7 am to 10 pm and all reg istered electors will be able to cast their vote in person, un less they have registered to vote by post. Once inside the polling sta

tion, voters are required to tell polling staff their name and

address, so that their details can be checked against the electoral register. They w i l l . then be given a ballot paper

fortheParliamentaryelection and where relevant separate

ballot papers for the borough and parish elections. The ballot papers list the

candidates standing for elec tion and voters are asked to take the ballot paper to a poll

ing booth and mark a cross (X) in the box to the right of the name of the candidate or candidates they want to vote for, fold the ballot paper in half and put it in the ballot box. Voters are asked not to

write anything else on their ballot paper, or their vote may not be counted. Anyone requiring assistance in com pleting their ballot paper can take a companion with them, or polling station staff will be

happy to help. The Parliamentary elec

tion has attracted eight can didates in Ribble Valley, while 76 will be vying for 38 seats on

the borough council. E R AAD

new friends and shared many new experiences along the way. I’ve done some pretty fan tastic things with Scouts since I became a volunteer but this tops the lot.” Between the opening and.

closing ceremonies, partici pants will have the opportu nity to take part in hundreds

The Clitheroe Scout contingent (s)

of activities focused on dis covering new cultures, the environment and sustainable development as well as explor ing global development issues. Taking a break from the

vibrant main Jamboree site with its 30,000 participants, the Clitheroe group will also take part in a moving visit to the Peace Park in the town of Hiroshima. This part of the programme will take Scouts in mixed groups from almost every nation on earth to expe rience the solemn and reflec tive atmosphere which has

been specially created in the Peace Park. Clitheroe Explorer Scout

Tom (16) said “This is a real op portunity for me to meet oth er young people from all over the world, to discover things about their culture and tradi- tions and have fun with them. I j ust can’t wait to get there.” The World Scout Jambo

ree runs until 8th August. The Scouts from Clitheroe will then spend some more time visiting the homes of other Scouts in Kyoto before return ing to the UK.
