Clitheroe nursery staff delighted after‘Good’Ofsted

Staff at Ribblesdale Nurs ery School, Clitheroe, are delighted after receiving a

. good Ofsted report. Inspectors recently vis

ited the nursery on Queens Road, Clitheroe and al though it graded the behav iour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching and achievement of pupils as good, it highlighted the out standing level ofleadership and management at the es tablishment. - The report stated: “Staff

have a strong commitment to meeting the needs of the individual. They recognise that some families require extra support and work very closely with the children’s centre, as well as outside agencies, to provide this. “Parents rate the school

highly and trust it. Out standing leadership by the headteacher, with the

' good support of the deputy headteacher and govern ing body, has reversed a dip in school performance and gives the school a very clear direction for the future.”

Top marks were also giv

en to the nursery’s curricu lum and the support of the governing body. • The report added: “The

curriculum provides a broad and interesting range of ex periences which are based on children’s interests and needs. “The governing body is

influential in shaping the school’s direction and hold ing it to account through good support and challenge.” Ribblesdale Nursery School, which accommodates up to 100 children, was given an outstanding Ofsted at its last inspection. Mr David Byrne, lead inspector, who visited the school in Decem ber, reported that it’s not yet. an outstanding school be cause: “There are occasions when the most able children are not challenged enough when learning through play, so that they achieve as well as they can. Parents could be further helped by the nurs ery to be involved in support ing their children’s learning outside school and at home.”

Executive homes application j

An application for 18 houses on land off Longsight Road in Langhohas been submitted to planning chiefs; The outline planning ap

plication, which means for permission in principle, is for 18 large “executive” houses on land north ofthe railway line. This application follows an earlier application for up

to 132 houses which was re fused by members of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s plan ning committee on November 13th last year. The 5.4 hectare site ad

joins a larger parcel of green field land which extends west to the boundary with White- halgh Lane. This wider site, to talling 25.97 hectares, is also

in the same ownership. How ever, it is only the eastern most field which is subject of this planning application. The developers state there

is sufficient local demand for large executive housing which is at a density which is not in congruous with the surround ing area and that these plans canhelp to satisfy that demand.

new homes plan 185 signature petition handed to planning chiefs

b y J u l i e M a g e e julie.magee@jpress.co.uk Twitter@clithadvertiser

Planning chiefs have received a petition signed by 185 people objecting to housing plans . that, residents argue, would increase Pimlico villageto over three and a halftimes its currentsize.

Members of Ribble Valley Bor ough Council’s planning and development committee will discuss the outline applica tion, which means for per mission in principle, tonight (Thursday) to build 19 new homes on land off Pimlico. Link Road. Councillorswillbeaskedto

agree on the principle of the development including that of

access with all other matters reserved for future scrutiny. 1 Local residents have dis

played oranjge signs objecting to the planning application since it was first mooted. • Oneofthemain objections

to the proposal is that the ar ea of land that would be used in the development currently provides “an element of sanc tuary for existing residents from the surrounding indus trial uses”. Residents also argue th a t .

the increased traffic will be of detriment to highways safety, and the residential amenities - of those who live in that area; - Ecology experts at Lan- •

cashire County Council have raised a number of concerns. . “It appears that most of the

trees that were present with in the site have already been felled and were felled prior to the Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey and Tree Survey. . “It is not possible to es

tablish whether any bats/bat roosts and/or nesting birds

'were adversely affected by the works and/or whether the works results in any offences.” The application made by

Mr and Mrs Stones wouldhave one access to the development off Pimlico Link Road. Lancashire County Coun

cil had raised original objec tions to the proposal due to the adverse effects of the de velopment on highway safety, brought about by the design of the junction ofthe estate road with Pimlico Link Road. A revise'd layout has been re ceived that takes into account the original concerns and the County Surveyor has subse quently withdrawn their ob

jection. ’ . Originally the plans were for 21 houses, but the appli

c a n t reduced this number following officers concerns in

’ respectofthislevelofdevelop- ment being able to be accom modated adequately on site.
