Lancashire County Council’s cabinet has announced the start of a consultation on its budget proposals for local services, which will deliver £216 million in savings by April 2018.
Following an informal consul tation over recent months in viting views on a list of options developed by council officers, members of the cabinet have decided not to include plans for 100% cuts in spending on subsidised bus services and subsidised denominational school transport. As part of the consultation,

Cloudy2Clear Windows - Service With A Smile!
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clcar Windows, The company which , specialises in repairing windows which arc steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes-not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Paul
Aspin feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our y product is simple. If your double glazing is., misted up wc can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although . that obviously helps.- Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and 1 honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure wc turn up when we say
. we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clcar service
the Burnley, Padiham, Nelson & Colne areas
and Paul is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ’The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family
SK
of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are
steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!
Borrow, Deputy Leader of the Council, explained: “We have to find unprecedented sav ings due to a combination of cuts imposed by central gov ernment and rising demand for essential services such as
social care. “This means that in addi
tion to the £2im. of savings for 2015/16 already identified in last year’s budget, we have identifiedafurtherf79.8m.of savings to be made this year, a total of£ioo.8m. Between 2010 and 2018 we will have made savings of £547 million, which requires radical action. “We can make some sav
ings by introducing more in telligent and efficient ways of working. However, it is also clear thatwewillhave todeliv- ersomeservicesinadifferent way and stop providing some services altogether. We will do all we can to ensure that we protect the most vulner able in the county and we are also committed to spending our resources fairly, accord ing to need. “As a Cabinet we are not
supporting tfie option of re moving bus subsidies or fi nancial support for children travelling to denominational schools, having listened to feedback from the consulta tion we’ve carried out over
recent months. We are now carrying out a further consul tation before the full council meeting in February takes the final decision on the budget.” Speaking about the pro
posed council tax increase, Coun. Borrow said: “In viewof the unprecedented financial challenge we face, this mod- • est increase will bring in ad ditional funds that will make a real difference to local servic es. Equivalent tojust over 42p per week for a band D proper ty, the increase would bring in an additional £7-5m which is the equivalent of protecting more than 180 children’s so cial workersorrepairingmore than 300,000 potholes. “We realise times are tough
but hope that local council tax payers will understand why we are proposing this; i f we don’t do it the gap in the coun cil’s funding will become even bigger and service reductions more severe." • Find out more at the
