Brass players are being recruited to strut their funky stuffinanewly formed big
band. Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues’ decision in October 2014 to go ahead and form a second big band is already paying off,
judging from the enthusiasm of band members during the first
practice sessions. After only four rehearsals, in
cluding three before Christmas, band members have grown in confidence and competence, having put together three big band tunes. . Band director Paul J. Rig by, who is also responsible for the RV Jazz Collective, Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues’ first big band project, said: “Our 14 new big band members have applied

An eagerly anticipated gig for Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club last Friday (January 9th) had to be cancelled at short no tice due to circumstances be yond the club’s control. Organisers apologise to an-

nounce that the gig, featuring the acclaimed Zoe Gilby Quar tet, hasnowbeen rescheduled for Saturday January 24th. It will take place at the same venue, the Atrium Cafe Bar at Clitheroe Castle, starting at the same time of 8 pm. Jazz vocalist andsongwriter
Zoe Gilby has in recent years made a real impression on the jazz scene. Her widerang- ing repertoire includes many compelling original compo sitions, written with double
bassist husband Andy Cham pion and performed by her highly accomplished band, guitarist Mark Williams and drummer Richard Brown. Her most recent album,
Twelve Stories, garnered rave reviews and she has toured the UK and internationally. Tickets for next Saturday's
