Tom is set to represent his of a lifetime
Butcher will travel to New Zealand to take part in tri-nations competition

A butcher from Chipping is set to compete against some of the bestof histrade from Australiaand New - Zealand after being chosen to represent Great Britain in a
tri-nations competition. Tom Wood, who was recent ly p'romoted to the position o f head butcher of Huntleys Country Stores at Samlesbury,. isoneoffiveUKButcherswho will compete in the competi tion in New Zealand later this year. Tom (36) grew up on his
family’s beef farm at Dutton, which is still farmed by his parents Jim and Vikki Wood. He moved to work at Hunt-
leys - afamily owned business with farm shop, restaurant and shops on the A59 - two
years ago. . Tom competed against 26 other butchers from across
• the UK to win a place on the teamafterbeinggiventhetask o f boning out a pork shoulder in one hour to create an attrac tive display. Having imp re s sed the
judges, he is now one of five fi- . nalists to make the grade for Team GB, which will compete in the competition in New Zea land later this year. He said: “1 have always had
astrongworkethic.stayedfo-. cused and set my goals very high. 1 will never settle for second best and I strive to do better and learn something different every day. I was lucky to be brought up in the indus try from knee high and meat is my absolute passion. “I’m excited and apprehen-
