Bank fines cash will help keep charity flying high
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans visited the North West Air Ambulance charity to find out how the Government’s recent £250,ooodonationfromLibor
fines will support the service. Interim charity chief ex
ecutive Fiona Morris, head of fundraising Jenny Haskey, and the crew at the charity’s Blackpool base met with the MP to talk about the life-sav ing work it carries out each day and its plans to develop pre-hospital medical educa
tion. Earlier this month, the
Government announced that it was issuing £5m. donation to
the Association of Air Ambu lances from the fines it levied against banks involved in ma nipulating the Libor interest rate. The cash will be distrib uted to local air ambulance
charities. Committed to cbntinuous-
ly enhancing its service, the North Westcharity will useits
share towards developing pre hospital emergency medical
education and training to al low it to deliver an even higher
level of patient care. TheNorth West Air Ambu
lance charity’s helicopters fly 365 days-a-year, with the doc tors and paramedics on board providing rapid treatment to
patients across the entire North West region each year. Just as many critically
injured patients would not survive without the service that the charity provides, the North West Air Ambu lance charity would not be
here without the support of its community of fundraisers and partners. Fiona Morris said: “As a
charity completely reliant on public donations, we are de lighted that the Government has granted £250,000 to us. It
was great to have Nigel at the base today so that we could demonstrate how crucial our service is to the North West region while showing that the funds will play an important role in the development of our service.”
