Hi

Caroline Pearce (32), a former pupil of St Michael and St John’s RC Primary School, Clitheroe, and St Augustine’s RC High School, Billington, said: “The NWAA is, obvious ly, close to my heart and has an amazing team, which is why I wish to raise funds to keep the helicopters flying.” The daughter of retired local coal merchant John

Pearce,Caroline, of River side, Low Moor, aims to raise £2,000 for the NWAA by trek king for six days across the Moroccan part of the Sahara. She will walk for up to

eight hours a day in scorch ing temperatures in Febru ary next year. Caroline will follow trails led by camels and camp in the desert each

night. There will be no toilet - or washing facilities for the six days and scorching days will be followed by freezing nights. A Ribble Valley Triath

lon Club member, Caroline participates in local triath lonsandrunning events. She recently ran 22k up Laterigg fell, Keswick, in aid of NWAA. “As I work on the air ambu

lance, I daily seethe difference it can make to people’s lives. We cover the whole of the North-West and are mainly ■ dispatched to road traffic col lisions, areas with difficult access or places that are not accessible by a land ambu lance, and to the most serious incidents,” she said. ; Heart attack patients are

transferred to specialist cardi ac centres and those involved in a serious accident can be flown to a trauma centre. Pa tients arrive quicker than in a land ambulance, potentially increasing survival rates. . • To sponsor Caroline, •.

oured to have been elected to the 1922 Committee. My col leagues have given me a great responsibility towards the direction of the Conserva tive Party and I intend to rep resent the views of the hard working Tory backbench MPs whose views represent

for the party as we go into the last 12 months before the elections. “It is also right that weget

the message across to hard working families in margin al seats that we are backing them. “We must do this if we are

to form a government in our own right without a coali tion.”
