Youngsters sail through to gain qualifications

A group of youngsters from Clitheroe Youth Forum have sailed through to achieving their National Royal Yachting Association level land level 2 qualifications. Over the summer holidays, 35 members had been attend ing the East Lancashire Sailing Club at Rishton. In order to achieve the qualifications, they had to sail a topper single handedonaset course, capsize and re-board safely and com

petently, rig and de-rig, learn rope techniques, rescue anoth er person, moor the craft safely and learn many other new techniques and skills. Youth Forum leader Mel Diack MBE said: “Considering that these youngsters aged 10-13 have not sailed before, they achieved a great deal in such a short space of time. This is also all credit to the coaches and instructors at the club led by Commodore Robin Tomlinson.”
