A Whalley man who hearda crash outside his home rushed out to see the man who had
just driven into his car smile at him, rev his engine and drive away.
But the smile was wiped off the drink-driver’s face when a short time later he crashed into a lamp post in Sabderi and the police arrived to arrest him. ■' Blackburn magistrates
heard that Grzegorz Kosow gave a police station breath sample which was more than three times the legal drink- drive limit and then refused to give ai second sample arid became abusive. ' Kosow (37), of Brownlow Street, Blackburn, pleaded
guiltytofailingtostopafteran accident, failing to provide a specimenanddrivingwithout insurance. He was remanded
on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report. Mr Scott Ainge (prosecut
ing) said David Saunders was inside his home in Dale View, Whalley, when he heard a
crash outside. He looked out and saw a car had collided with his parked vehicle and
rarioutsidetotryandstopthe driver. “The defendant revved his engine and drove off, smil ing at Mr Saunders as he did so,” said Mr Ainge. Shortly afterwards police
were called to Padiham Road in Sabden, close to the White Hart Inn, where a car had collided with a lamp post. A number of people were at the scene and Kosow, who was leaning against a wall, was identified as the driver. Mr Ainjge said Kosow was
arrested and after refusing to take a second breath test be-. came aggressive and abusive. “He was interviewed when
he had sobered up arid admit ted driving off after colliding with the parked car because he was drunk and uninsured. Mrs Helen Farnsworth (de
fending) said Kosowhad made a bad decision to go outdrink ing to celebrate his birthday and then drive home. “He is very upset and very
ashamed ofwhat he has done,” said Mrs Farnsworth.
