What qualifications do you need? An accounting or legal quali fication is useful but not es sential. Good numeracy and English is required. At my level, the Certificate of Profi ciency in Insolvency (CPI) or Certificate In Insolvency (CII) is essential, with an expecta tion of completing the Joint Insolvency Examination (JIE).

Any other requirements, such as health and age?

A reasonable standard of fit ness, but age is not a bar. Most workisoffice-based, although. there can be a bit of travelling to progress matters.

How long does it take to qualify for the role? An initial qualification is not necessary, and trainee insol vency administrator roles are often available to graduates. At least two years’ exp erience is usually expected before sit ting the CPI/CII, while at least five years is common before sitting the JIE.

What sort of starting salary and package can you expect?

An insolvency administrator may expect to start on £16,000 to £18,000 in the North West. Some roles in Personal Insol vency include commission.

What sort of personal skills make someone best suited? There is a strong people focus at all levels, so excellent inter personal skills are a must. Confidentiality, teamwork and integrity are essential, although there may be spells working alone, requiring self- motivation. Negotiating skills and an enquiring mind are al so useful.

What career prospects and structure is there?

An administrator may directly progress to senior administra tor then insolvency manager. Successfully passing the JIE examination and demonstrat

ing sufficient experience is an opportunity to become a li censed insolvency practition er. A starting salary is typically around £50,000, with higher incomes achievable by the ex perienced, although often as a partner or sole practitioner.

Whatjob satisfaction can you expect? There’s a high level of satisfac tion for assisting companies and individuals experiencing genuine difficulty. Likewise, obtaining the maximum pos-. sible recoveries for creditors - whether small companies or big banks - is morally' satisfying.

A great day was had by all at Ribblesdale Wanderers Cricket and Bowling Club in memory of Michael Britcliffe and Melvin Edmondson on Sunday.

A 30-over cricket match took place at Church Meadows for the Michael Britcliffe Memo rial, in aid of both the Alzhe- imers Society and RWC&BC. For Michael, it was about

giving kids the chance to play the great game - “It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part” was his key philosophy. Michael’s grandson Jor

dan Britcliffe captained the winning side, beating Mark Thompson XI. Jordan’s XI: J.Britcliffe

tition is to bring any social member and non bowlers and bowlers together, team ing them up in pairs. A total of 32 players took

part, and played in a round- robin format, with eight play ers per group playing three

games of 15 up. The winners of each group played in the semi-final, and group A win ners Hazel Hodder and Eric Wallace played group C win ners Tracy Spencer and Alan Dewhurst, with Hazel and Eric winning 15-7. Group B winners John

Aubin and Jack Holt played group D winners Ann Barratt and Stuart Greenwood, with John and Jack winning 15-3. In the final, Hazel and Eric

beat John and Jack 15-11. All who took part said how

much they had really enjoyed learning and taking part in Mel’s competition. Many thanks to all the or

ganisers who helped make this day such a special day in memory of Michael and Mel, who will be sorely missed by all at Church Meadow. Wanderers are also hold
