Newlyweds Gareth Hill and Karin Hilton had asurprise treat on their wedding day in Ireland when they met one of Gareth’sfavourite musicians, Finbar Furey.
The couple, who live at Whal ley, chose to tie the knot at Langton House Hotel, Kil kenny, in front of 54 of their nearest and dearest. Gareth had proposed to Karin at Kil kenny Castle on holiday the previous year. Police sergeant Gareth

Despite the bad weather, Grindleton’s Recreation Ground Sports Day went ahead as planned on Satur day and an amazing number o f people turned up to get drenched and mud spattered. They competed in races,
tug o’war, the cross-coun try, egg throwing, the wellie throwing. Occasionally they took shelter in the marquee to play table tennis, to limbo dance and to feast on the su perb array of cakes provided • by villagers.
■ Remarkably everyone had a great afternoon, including the winners of the children’s fancy dress competition, based on the theme of “Gar- nival” because England will be competing in Brazil in the next weeks, so there were lots of Brazilian flags and their col- ours of yellow and green to go
